As for this season on Reds manager Dusty Baker (the bad pitcher maker). I know that there is no way that he is gone but his managing this season of this Reds team imo was bad. A lot of his decisions, maybe better to say non decisions at the helm imo cost the Reds several games from the bench. I said earlier that I would wait untill season's end to voice an opinion, well friends...the fat lady has sang like a bird. I don't even want go into his handling of the Starting pitching (but I will ), starting with the absolute terrible move with A. Harrang in the one game of 5 innngs of relief. Then to top all that fiasco off he had him come back from the DA list and pitch again this season. What was that supposed to accomplish other than do further damage?

This season was over when Harrang came back, imo he should have been told to take the rest of the season off and hopefully come back strong next season.

So my season ending grade for Dusty this season.......either a D- or an F+ ( I will give him cerdit in one area...he can sure handle a toothpick) :thumb:

Well, obviously, Jocketty is only now beginning to put his stamp on this roster. And the players haven't exactly overachieved. But doesn't the manager bear some responsibility for this mess, too?

 

Scouts who have followed the Reds continually talk about their messy execution, their mediocre defense and their distinct lack of energy. There also has been plenty of second-guessing of Baker's lineup choices (particularly those 242 at-bats Corey Patterson has gotten).

 

And there is no shortage of people wondering whether Aaron Harang's forearm injury -- along with his 1-6, 8.49 slide in the past 2½ months -- might be a direct result of Baker's decision to allow him to throw 63 pitches in relief on two days' rest in a May 25 18-inning game, then start him on three days' rest immediately afterward.

 

Dusty Baker has many admirable traits. And this is not an attempt to heap all the blame on him. We're just saying that when teams like this fall apart, it's everybody's fault -- including the manager's.

Any Manager, must make daily game decisions and whom to hit/pitch/sub where but the current team roster, is certainly not his fault.

 

Honestly, a good job with the talent he has.

A manager/coach is only as good as his assistant coaches (ie. Tubby, LaRussa, Phil Jackson). There has been a lot of criticism of Pole and Jacoby. Therein lies your answer.

He's one guy I've just never cared much for. To me he wreaks of arrogance with his toothpick flipping around in his mouth, strutting around. I'm a Mike Socia fan myself! Blue collar, gritty, do the little things right etc.

I don't see any arrogance in Dusty Baker at all, never have. And how in the world do you judge someone we never get to see, unless you have satlelite tv or something.

I voted bad only because I could not vote "as well as can be expected."

 

Also, the comment about WK where Dusty completely passed the buck would be enough justification for me if I was the Big Man to let him go.

He hasn't had much to work with. He was dealt a bad hand.
