August 3, 200818 yr Author I think you need to generationalized that. 50 years and younger, I don't think that will be an issue. 50 years and older, I think it will be an issue because they grew up in a far different time than I did. I won't vote for a candidate that thinks abortion is acceptable form of birth control in this country hiding behind "it's a women's choice what to do with her body" argument whether they are white, black, green, purple, plaid, albino, etc, etc. Far more people will vote for Obama because of his race than will vote against him because he is black and that includes those over 50. However, I do agree that younger voters will be less likely to vote against Obama because of race than those older than 50. Race might be a bigger issue if Obama was a moderate. There are so many valid reasons for anybody who is not a left wing Democrat to vote against Obama that race is a non-factor.
August 3, 200818 yr It doesn't but Obama wants to be the black candidate and he wants to make race an issue in this race. There are far fewer racists in this country than liberals want to admit. Some people will vote for Obama to prove to themselves that they are not racists. Obama does not care why people vote for him, as long as their votes put him in the White House. Very few people will vote against Obama because he is black. Many people will vote for him because he is black (or is seen as black). That is why Obama feels the need to constantly remind people that he is black. He believes that it is a winning "issue" for him. I disagree that Obama wants to be a black candidate. He has chosen to be black man all of his life. No one will know what they do in the voting booth, though. "They" may say they have voted for Obama and actually not do it. I know of three people that say that they will not vote for him because he is black.

That is three more people than I know who will not vote for Obama because he is black. Almost everybody who I work with will be voting for Obama because he is a liberal. (I am the token conservative.)

Obama is not good in a debate setting because he has to rely on his knowledge of issues and meager experience. It will also be difficult for him to remember his most recently announced position on each issue. It is much tougher for a liberal to run as a moderate than it is for a moderate to run as a moderate.

I want to see candidates think on their feet, be asked real questions (and perhaps ask real questions themselves), and have their feet held to the fire when they duck and dodge. Unfortunately, I know of 3 (more) in my immediate family that are having serious concerns of voting for him because of his race.
