New York acquired catcher Ivan Rodriguez from the Tigers on Wednesday for right-handed pitcher Kyle Farnsworth. The deal was first reported by ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney. Rodriguez, who is in the final year of his contract, waived his no-trade clause to join the Yankees, sources told ESPN.com. "He's hitting over .290 I believe and he's been hot so we're looking forward to having him," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said after New York's 13-3 rout of the Orioles on Wednesday. July 30, 200818 yr I love this move! They just sured up two major weaknesses and didn't mortgage the future to do it. Great moves, Mr. Cashman. Now, if they can pick up some insurance at catcher, watch out! I put this in the thread when the Yanks got Nady and Marte. Cashman is a great GM. This is a great move for the Yanks to better themselves down the stretch. This has to force the Rays to do something (I assume Boston will because they have a great GM in Theo as well).
