Have to say that the Lord favored me here. I just hope that as I help my wife go through the next few days of burying and remembering her grandmother, I can be a favor to her.

Speaking as a wife of a man who eases my heart in trouble times, I feel sure that your wife's heart will be lifted just by having you by her side today and always.

 

I do pray for your wife and your entire family. I pray that her heart is eased by the many years she had with her grandmother and the love that they had for each other.

Nice work, LBBC...when you get started citing profound verses from Proverbs, it's hard to stop. Almost all of them are great.

 

We've been studying Philippians in our Wednesday night Bible study and our lesson last night talked a lot about contentment. With that in mind, here's a great verse from Proverbs, one that I had obviously overlooked numerous times before.

 

Proverbs 30:8,9 ...give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food that is needful for me, lest I be full and deny you and say, "Who is the LORD?" or lest I be poor and steal and profane the name of my God.

 

A great, great verse, IMO.

 

It made me think of two things...

 

1) How many of us could or would truly ask this of God? If God flat out gave us these three options...be filthy rich, dirt poor, or have exactly what you need, nothing more or less...what would you ask for?

 

2) Solomon is credited with writing most, if not all, of Proverbs. If, in fact, he wrote this particular one, when did he write it? Before or after his kingdom was taken from him?

Proverbs 23: v 29-34

 

29 Who has woe?

Who has sorrow?

Who has contentions?

Who has complaints?

Who has wounds without cause?

Who has redness of eyes?

30 Those who linger long at the wine,

Those who go in search of mixed wine.

31 Do not look on the wine when it is red,

When it sparkles in the cup,

When it swirls around smoothly;

32 At the last it bites like a serpent,

And stings like a viper. 33 Your eyes will see strange things,

And your heart will utter perverse things.

34 Yes, you will be like one who lies down in the midst of the sea,

Or like one who lies at the top of the mast, saying:

"They have struck me, but I was not hurt; They have beaten me, but I did not feel it. When shall I awake, that I may seek another drink?"

I can't hold it anymore:

About 7 years ago my best friends dad was our Sunday school teacher. He's probably one of the best men I've ever met in my life. Anyhow, we did a special over the course of a few months which all we did was discect(spelling) the entire book of Proverbs. I must say it really taught me alot.

 

If ever I'm struggling or looking for answers in life, when I turn to the bible, I almost always start off in Proverbs.

I love this book in the Bible. I try to live my life by Chapter 3 verses 5 and 6.

 

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, Lean not on your own understandings. In all your ways acknowledge him and he will keep your paths straight."

 

These to verses are my favorite ones in the Bible. I try to teach both my children to be this way also.

Proverbs 24:17 learned this one many years ago...."do not Gloat when your emenies Fail"

 

Another one...get away from a quarrelsome wife by going up on the roof.
