I know there are more than three teams worthy of being noted as elite, and Oklahoma is in that list, there is no doubt about that. Since 2000 this is the comparison between Oklahoma and Texas. Texas - 96-22, 6-2 bowl record, 3 top 5 finishes, 1 conference championship. 1 national championship. Oklahoma - 90-17, 4-4 bowl record, 4 top 5 finishes, 5 conference championships, 1 national championship. Texas may have more wins, and 2 more bowl wins, but OU has more top 5 finishes, and conference championships. Also OU has played in 6 BCS' bowl games, to Texas's 2.
July 30, 200818 yr Top five finishes is sort of disputable with all the different polls isn't it? Unless thier all from the same poll. You can go to as many bowls as you want but don't they have lesser value if you don't win them?

Now since we are talking about the status of the program and not just its recent success (my guess would be that WVU has had similar numbers), lets look at bigger time frame than 8 years. If you look at the last 25-30 years in between the two programs it isn't even close.

Obviously that is the furthest thing from the truth nowadays. What does it all mean?? Absolutely nothing...... For example, by most accounts Florida was the 2nd best team in the SEC last year, and is mentioned as a possible elite team. Do you denounce them because they lost badly to a Michigan team that looked horrible in losing to Appy St., Oregon, and OSU? Does that damage their credibility as an elite team? Were they overrated? It's one game, and IMO not a great representation of the football "season", as coaches get what, like a month now to prepare?

Florida was NOT the second best team in the SEC, they were either the 4th or 5th best team... 1. LSU 2. Georgia 3. Auburn 4/5. Tennessee/Florida I said I think that in the grand shcmee of things they are a powerhouse, just staing what the ammo would be against them on a recent basis.
