Either way, his teammate said it too so it's not like I was way off base, is it? You watch the team regularly. You're not qualified to make declarative statements about them?
July 22, 200818 yr In the end it doesn't matter where I got it. I stand by the statement that he was an "emotional leader". Someone else will have to step up on the team to take that role. Brandon Jacobs seems to be an energetic guy who can get a team going. Maybe he can.

If anyone was a (emotional) leader on that team it was Strahan, now he is gone and that is where they are going to be hurt. Shockey was very unleader like IMO, but "played" with a lot of "emotion". You could be right about Jacobs but I'm not so sure who will step up for the Giants and give them that leadership, to me they seem for the most part like a half me team and a half laid back and quiet team. Coughlin's also not the type of coach who will be putting fire in everyone, so as far as leadership goes, not sure who's going to take on that role.

Eli - grimmiest move of all-time, refusing to play for a team (insert Chargers), then wanted automatic respect and recognition in the league pretty much based on draft status and family ties....give me a break I will say he started to finally play good football last year, until then he would often cry about things that were often his fault then try to place blame somewhere else. need me to go on????

Allow me to retort. I do not believe any of these players are "me" first types. Especially Osi or Eli. Plaxico has gotten a bad rep over the past but based on what I've read, he's done nothing but good things in New York. I'd LOVE examples of Eli crying and blaming things on others. Osi is very confident. But I wouldn't call him a "me" player. He wanted a new contract this off-season but decided against holding out unlike other players. He decided he wanted to play as hard as he can and earn a new contract. What has he said that is bad or not right btw? Plaxico gets a bad reputation through the media but from what I've read he's not a bad guy. He's changed a lot from when he was in Pittsburgh. I read a story where Eli had to borrow Plax's playbook and Plax had tons of notes written in his play book. Playing through his numerous injuries earned himself more money IMO. Apparently the Giants agree as one Giants beat writer says the Giants are working with Plax's agent on getting him a new deal. Oh, and Plaxico has said that he will not skip training camp because of the contract dispute. Oh and btw, you said half of the team is "me" guys. That is 3 out of...what 52?

July 22, 200818 yr He's emotional, no doubt. It would be very remiss to call him a leader of any kind, however. Maybe now that he's no longer in Giant Blue our boy HB will admit what we've known all along -- that he's just typical Miami. Weren't there more than a few people who said that Eli Manning played much much better and with more confidence once Shockey got hurt and was out of the way? Personally, I think he is terribly overrated.

And I can understand why THAT situation would make someone not like him. I can, I promise. But I've never read or seen an interview where Eli blamed poor play on other teammates. As far as I'm concerned that is completely untrue. Shockey adds a lot to the Saints offense. I'm not a big fan of Sean Peyton and I don't think he is that great of a coach. I think he is good for a short period and then starts to decline (that's what happened when he was the Giants O-coordinator). However, I think if Shockey is healthy, the Saints will have a very very very dangerous offense. I wish the Giants didn't trade him. But if he was as upset as I've been reading, I don't think they had a choice.
