I don't always think the Colonels are the best team in NKY...The Kings and Chiefs give them a run for their money more often than not..

So which team is better between these two? NEITHER. That's b/c nky doesn't have the sound baseball teams other areas have. There is no Midland or Kentucky Baseball Club of NKY. There are a lot of teams with split talent. You're not going to send any one of these 15U teams down to a major tournament and win. No nky team is made of the "best" players around here until you get to the Colonels. It'd be nice in the future to have younger age groups of the Colonels and that's what the Erlanger Lions seemed to be before... a step in the right direction for nky. But now this year with the switch to Bluegrass Lions, a step back. Until nky has an organization like Midland or KBC, you're not going to find nky high schools repeatedly going to state.

I do agree it would be nice to see 1 team put together, but this will never happen in this area. I disagree that Midland and KBC are that far ahead overall. I think the Kings 18's have beaten KBC and the Kings 18's have beaten the Colonels more than they have lost to them, if I am not mistaken.

 

There are players on the Chiefs and Kings that could play for the Colonels I would think. The Colonels do not have ,as you say ,all the "best players".

 

Maybe you have an issue with Bluegrass that makes you feel this way. Everyone has an opinion. Once again you are comparing the Lions of past to the current ones. This year they are 15. Next year when 16 let's compare them to the past Lions.

 

Coach Myerhoff has stated this is one of the best teams he has had. I will certainly believe him over anyone else. I can not compare, I have never seen the other teams play. This team has had it's struggles this year for what ever reasons. Overall it has been a good year. When you step out and play 16-17 and 18 's as a 15 year old team you may have problems at times. They have beaten some of these teams and lost to 1 or 2.

I think your observations may be biased for whatever reason.

 

Just curious, how many times have seen the Bluegrass Lions play and vs who?

Also, please explain to me how summer ball with teams made up of players from several high schools would make a high school team be a team to repeat going to state .

With 2,3 or 4 players from 1 school playing with 1,2 or 3 players from different schools I am not sure I follow .

 

By the way if you are counting the Midland 18 year old team as a power in this area ,how many players are from the Greater Cincy area ?

I would say the one thing that NKY does lack is that one super select organization that has teams at multiple ages level and to which all the best players are attracted. That is not meant to be a slam at any existing organization that currently has multiple-age teams. There is indeed a ton of talent throughout NKY, but the simple fact is that gets spread out amongst a lot of different teams. I guess you could see this is either a good or bad thing. There are currently numerous quality teams at 15U and 16U. I don't see one as head and shoulders above the others or to which all the top talent is attracted. Personally, I love to see one super select team in NKY at these age levels, as I think they'd be absolutely outstanding and could go to just about any tournament they want and have a chance to win. I guess the choice comes down to whether you'd like to see: A) one super elite NKY team and several other solid-but-lesser teams or, B) a bunch of very solid teams. I would choose the former over the latter. Of course, accomplishing this feat (of one elite team at each level) is a whole other matter . . . .

 

With regard to Walt, I'd don't see any team currently or even in the past as being a "feeder" to his team. Walt takes a look at the many, many players that try out for his team each year and takes the ones he feels are best - regardless of who they played for previously. Sure, you can make a case that he doesn't have all the "best" players in NKY, but I can pretty much guarantee you that 90% of the "best" players in NKY show up to his tryouts every single year hoping to make his team. That is why every other team holds off their tryouts until Walt has finished his. In the grand scheme of NKY baseball, the Colonels are the closest thing to an "elite" team.

 

Now if the Colonels organization ever put together a program that would include teams at 15U and 16u, that would get very interesting IMO . . . . .

In years past, I would venture to say that the Colonels pretty much DID have the best of the best. I also know that there are excellent players on other teams now, too. It could be awesome to think that the Colonels could have younger teams. Probably not in reality, though. Too labor intensive. But, oh the possibilities.....

I am sorry .I thought we were comparing NKY not just Bluegrass to Midland and KBC.Like I said the Kentucky Kings of Mullins have played KBC a couple times I think splitting with them.I do not count Midlands 18 's with players from all over the country, that is not a local team,just based here.

The former team ,Bluegrass Knights has played all the Midland teams in there age group .They have beaten all but the Jets ,losing 4-3 (I think-maybe 3-2).This is over about 4 years.The last meeting with THE Warriors was a run rule played at NKU.The Kentuky Titans lost to KBC 4-2 in Nashville at a wood bat tourney.I was told by a KBC dad they threw one of there lower pitchers .but they did only score 4 runs .Not sure who pitched for the Titans.

I have only seen KBC 15'S play 3-4 innings .They are very good .They could compete with whoever they take the field against .

I agree wins and loses are irrelvant .While everybody wants to win ,the key is getting to the next level to get the college paid for! :thumb:

I heard that the Lions head Coach is a HS head coach and that he got thrown out of a game in (Florida maybe) during the KY dead period. How can something like this be allowed? I was under the impression that no HS head coach could participate in any activities directly with players from their own team during dead period.

When the team went to florida dead period was over, and the coach did not get thrown out.

I have never seen these Lions play, however I can bet that they do not compare to some of the Lions teams of the past. My son played for the Lions for 4 years and in one year they no-hit the Bluegrass 18's and run ruled the 17's. They beat the 18 year old Comair team and lost to the Colonels by just 1 run. This was when these kids were 15's. When the team was 16's they beat all of those teams again and only lost 4 games ALL SUMMER. They won every tournament they played in except for one.

Your memory may be a bit fuzzy. I can assure you they never no-hit the Bluegrass 18's ever. The Lions beat them last year for the first time in about 12 years. And I'm pretty sure I can be quoted on that.
