What do you think about the pulled scholarship? Does that sound right to you? In other words, I can see this kind of thing happening late in the recruiting process when a school only has a couple of scholarships to go but not several months before the fact.

 

I think that the recent trend suggests that, if you don't make a commitment quickly, schools are going to pull the offer--and give it to someone who is willing to make a commitment immediately. (I am not sure if that is the case in this situation).

 

There was an article in the Enquirer a week or so ago, where it talked about how UC/Brian Kelly were making offers earlier than they ever have (within the rules) and were receiving commitments earlier in the process than in the past.

 

The article was pretty interesting ... and I get the impression that colleges will continue to follow this road (within the rules) ... you either know that you want to play there (when you get an offer) or someone else will fill your spot. Colleges have been "over-offering" for a while now ... and they have players ready, willing and able to take spots.

 

Chenowith--I am not real sure why you would want to question Teipel's integrity as to whether he got an offer or not ... not real sure what you are trying to accomplish with that statement.

They are both exceptional in regard to academics (then again .. most Beechwood kids are). Both are very intelligent ... and have a tough workload academically.

Actually ... I have a feeling that it is more common (especially lately) than we know about. Remember ... schools can not speak about perspective signees .. therefore .. which means that the only way people find out if an offer was made--and then they pull the rug out ... is if the ATHLETE makes it public. Now .. think about that for a minute ... I can't think of any benefit of making that information public especially if that school tells you that you will get an open spot if one becomes available.

 

As far as NT goes ... he has the frame, he is a great athlete ... I can't see where or why Chenowith would make the assertion that he didn't get an offer. When you add everything up ... it isn't like he doesn't have the tools. Meaning .. why question his integrity? Does he know something that the rest of us don't know? Not in this case ....

On a completely unrelated note (from the article), is Jeremy Fischer the only coach in NKY who coaches two different sports at two different schools?

I follow college recruiting somewhat, and it's happening already. I know for a fact that OSU and ND have pulled schollies already. For example, they offer X number of schollies for the OL position, usually offering a few more than they have room for. Basically, they take first come, first serve for that position, unless you're just a flat out stud who you can wait for. Coaches tell the kids this usually, so the recruits need to figure things out and verbal, or risk losing their ride.

 

As a ND fan, I know we have offered far more kids than we have spots for, about 4 times more. That's normal. ND just picked up a stud who was the 5th man out at OSU because 4 OL committed already. He thought they'd wait for him to decide, and he was wrong. He is a 4*/5* type recruit. Some schools (like UF) make "conditional offers", meaning if we don't get other higher rated commits by a certain date, then we'll take you. I think those are a little sleazy for my taste.

 

UK is in this position as well, having an offer out to certain a TE, and they are full at TE, unless someone moves.

 

My dad used to say, "Don't sit on the pot, unless you're going to (fill in the blank). I think that applies to this case. Sounds like he will still get a solid offer though, and I hope this all works out for him. It usually does.

Doesn't this sort of negate the senior football season in terms of "earning" a scholarship? If your not a stud at the soph/jr year (late bloomer), then the chances of the BCS D1 are slim???? Doesn't seem right .

quick and mirage are on point here. Recruiting is an ever changing trend, and right now a lot of BCS schools are filling their spots shortly after the first round of camps and combines. Just my opinion, but I think it's part of a push for an early signing period so we see less poaching in February...

JK, good info and cant wait to watch this kid from Beechwood not to mention the beastly Dominic Mainello.

Great infor....but everyone has to keep in mind, this is a business and coaches lives depend on getting great players on their universities. Im not saying its right but coaches want commitments early now a days. Its true, if your a game changer you have options to play the waiting game but in most cases, the schools can find a player just as good. I know for a fact schools have a "war room" and when a player commits to a school, they go to their next option.
