June 25, 200818 yr If you can't afford college, the gov't will give you grants and/or loans so you can afford it. The gov't is already using my tax dollars to help out every other person, both citizen and non-citizen, that is down on their luck. Uh...no they don't. I just got my FAFSA back from "the government" and guess what? They said I make too much money to receive aid from the government? I made $8,000 last year and my tuition is $9,000. I get no money from my parents. Tell me what sense that makes? I now have to take out student loans (from banks, not the government) just so I can "have a better life."
June 25, 200818 yr Does anyone on here that supports government run health care work in the medical industry? We already have a govrnment run plan called Medicare that is a train wreck. They make huge demands of how a doctor has to treat patients and reimburse very little. Then all of the for profit insurance companies follw suit. I know many doctors that hate treating Medicare patients because of all the hoops they are forced to jump through only to be reimbursed about 40% what they bill. If the government can mess up that program so bad why would anyone have faith that they could manage a universal plan well? Has anyone ever read an EOB after a doctor's visit? Look at the contractual adjustments. That's what a doctor has to agree to write off just to be able to see you. Just because they bill $100 doesn't mean they get anywhere paid close to $100. You keep telling doctors (and dentists and PTs and OTC etc) that they have to take less in reimbursement (and it's getting ready to happen again from Medicare) and there will be less people that will incur the expense to become doctors. That would be just lovely wouldn't it?

I'm going to be over $20,000 in debt for school by the time I graduate in December. Oh well...that's life I guess.

"You'll appreciate more if you have to work for it." "If it were easy, girls would do it." I've got some more, but those get my point across. 18 years ago, I was in the same place you are in. I worked 1 f/t job, 1 p/t time and made it through on my own. I didn't live like the other college kids. No parties, bought my clothes at K-Mart rather than American Eagle, and ate a lot of ramen noodles and Hamburger Helper. Stay focused, work hard, and it will be worth it at the end. Good luck.
June 26, 200818 yr It's because they use your family's total income, not the individual... Still doesn't make sense when you look at my family's total income. But I'm not going to post that here...
June 26, 200818 yr Author Still doesn't make sense when you look at my family's total income. But I'm not going to post that here... Basically if you have two working parents, it's going to disqualify you from receiving it. It's stupid, but as you said earlier, it's life.

June 26, 200818 yr Basically if you have two working parents, it's going to disqualify you from receiving it. It's stupid, but as you said earlier, it's life. That doesn't make much sense. I have two working parents and still receive financial aid. They are divorced so that may change things, but after reading on here about HB20 and the other guy not receiving aid I really don't understand why they are not getting any.

June 26, 200818 yr Could be they didn't look into all that was available, although I would doubt that. Plus, I also got aid before they were divorced so that puts that to rest. I don't know why the other two guys aren't getting any.
June 26, 200818 yr My question is this. If your child is dying, would you go bankrupt trying to save them, or do you want the government to give you a doctor at a discounted price and determine who is at need first, your son or someone else as sick? You want socialized health care move to Canada.................

I received some financial aid each year in college up until this year. It has decreased pretty much every year I've been in college. This is my last semester (I've been going to college for 4 years now) so I don't mind getting the loans as long as I graduate .
