Wade, Prince, Redd get spots on U.S. Olympic basketball team

Several other players have already announced they have been informed of their Olympic spot, including Dallas Mavericks point guard Jason Kidd. The Rocky Mountain News reported last week that Denver Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony was also assured an Olympic spot.

 

Also Thursday, the Arizona Republic reported that Suns forward Amare Stoudemire has declined a chance to be on the Olympic squad. Colangelo told the newspaper that Stoudemire was concerned about pushing his body too hard after knee surgery in 2005 and 2006.

 

Pistons guard Chauncey Billups pulled himself out of consideration for a spot on the U.S. team earlier this week. The All-Star point guard might have had a hard time making the team anyway because of available guards such as Kidd, Wade, Chris Paul and Deron Williams.

What a jerk wanting some time off so he can heal 100% from 2 horrible knee injuries that have ended peoples careers before.

I think Amare is in good shape. He really didn't want to play and I want only people who want to give 110% on the USA team.

I just think its a good basketball decision to put Tay on the team rather than Amare.

I am with you HT...give the guy a break. Many people might not even be able to play another game after two surgies like that. To call him non-patriotic is completely ridiculous...I repeat ridiculous.

There are plenty of other guys you could get on for not playing IMO he is not one of them.

The certains on the team are Kobe, Lebron, Kidd, Melo, Howard, Wade, Redd, Paul, and Tayshaun. Who will get the other 4 spots? There will have to be at least 2 more bigs on the team. Carlos Boozer? Elton Brand? Would KG play again?
