I agree with you. It is a small, but important difference.

If Euton does not get eligible he should not be allowed to play. Mitchell never got eligible. At some point whether forced or not the KHSAA has to acknowledge Euton is allowed to play in order for him to be able to play.

 

I also acknowledged on another thread I believe, that I did not know all the details of the Mitchell ruling and that perhaps he should have been granted eligibility. The difference is these boys have not played in any high school games like Mitchell did.

 

What I am saying here is a disagree with the decision and if I knew the details of that decision I may disagree with that as well.

Given what I knew of the situation, I felt that Mitchell should have been eligible. His family physically moved to Fort Thomas and there was no indication that there was any recruiting involved.

 

Did the Mitchells move for athletic reasons? Sure, they did ... it seems apparent that they moved to the Highlands district so they could stick it to Covington Catholic.

 

As for the Euton case ... the Eutons have relocated to Georgetown, so I'm inclined to think that he's eligible, even though it's clear that "athletic reasons" were a prime motivation for the move.

 

But there is also some question about the process that led to the transfer, and that issue is something a KHSAA investigation might make clearer.

 

As for Jackson ... I don't know all of the circumstances with his family and the move. Until that is made clear, I really don't have an opinion either way.

Can you explain the Shotwell situation? I don't believe any of us really know much about that.

 

You are entitled to your opinion and I disagree, but one thing we did agree on is the KHSAA has handled the situation very poorly.

 

Another point I have is there is this big gray area where a situation can be deemed an athletic move. It sounds to me like this is a scary situation where a lot of kids on the move can be ruled ineligible because of this.

 

Shotwell attended Scott CO, went to LCA for a year, then came back to Sc this year. Was ruled ineligible. Why should those two be eligible but nobody is saying he should? Ah the politics involved in basketball. I guess only a high profile kid, one of whom is a UK recruit, should get special priveleges?

 

We both are entitled to our opinions and I respect yours since you normally make educated posts but this is one OUTCOME we'll disagree on.

 

I've spoken with several coaches in the past two days and all have said the same thing: "Euton's father and Jackson both broke the rules with their comments. It says in the bylaws that no student athlete can transfer schools in whole or partly because of athletics."

 

Like it or not, those are the facts and even if appealed, the coaches I've spoken with have said it will be shot down as it is frowned upon very much so by coaches and schools on the BOC.

One thing that has to be considered here is what is High School athletics all about in Kentucky.? Is it playing to win?......or is it all about winning? Is it about bringing the best players from all over the state together to win a state championship?......or is it about developing young men and women, learning about hard work and loyalty, and playing to win?

What schools/people are on the KHSAA BOC? I hear there are 18 members?

 

I am afraid Euton and Jackson's chances of getting this overturned may be difficult if it is up to the BOC. Considering it is other member schools, I would think they might "take it out" on Scott County. Basically Scott County has become another Lexington Catholic in the eyes of many. I am not implying they recruit. But because they have become so powerful, many schools, players, coaches, etc have become jealous.

Will Euton some how find a job and they be back at Rose Hill next year?

I predict that both Jackson and Euton will be in Prep School in another state come this fall. The KHSAA will not budge on this one. What I don't understand is that these rules are set-up to discourage schools from recruiting kids. But most of the time it is the kids\parents recruiting the school. When a family moves don't they check out the area school systems. Most parents check the academic status of the school and the after school activities offered by the schools, including athletics. So in a sense alot of moves are made at least in part for athletic reasons. I guess the comments made to the press were too damaging. Warning to all of those who may transfer, KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT!!!

I would have liked to have seen them both play and develop the next couple of years. Who knows, the KHSAA BOC may overturn the decision.

I just so happened to watch the 27 News out of Lexington, it's the only Lexington news station we get up here in NKY, and they showed highlights of the State High School AAU tournament. Well actually, they only showed one game....Scott County versus Rockcastle County. Obviously when I heard Rockcastle County, I paid attention.....LOL.

 

Well to make a long story short, Euton and Jackson were playing for Scott County. I knew it wouldn't be a score that I'd like and it wasn't.....Rockcastle County got doubled up....102-51. Euton looked to have had a pretty good game and possibly a dunk....I could be wrong on that final point.
