Rock Hill police began patrolling commencements several years ago at the request of school districts who complained of increasing disruption. Those attending commencements are told they can be prosecuted for bad behavior and letters are sent home with students, said Rock Hill police spokesman Lt. Jerry Waldrop.

Was the school administration calling the police's bluff that no one would be prosecuted / arrested? I think the school's administration is trying to save face and blame the police for their mistake.

This worked for a year or two, but was becoming more of a problem even with police presence. Next step, have someone arrested for disrupting the graduation to show they mean business. Due to arrests, no one yells at next year's graduation. When public get's upset, blame it on overzealous police.

 

While I doubt the school wanted anyone to be arrested, I'm pretty sure the school wanted the rule enforced and lessons to be learned if necessary.

Very possible. Though one would certainly hope the chief of police is not allowing his force to be used as pawns by the school.

Why would any parent, friend, or family member want to cheer for someone graduating high school. It's not like their kid sells crack. See that is something to be proud about. (J/K)

While the arrests cannot be justified, I really, really hate people who scream and make noise during graduation. It's very rude and only serves to make one look foolish.

I know their A.D. very well. I'll see if he can offer any insight.

Dude, I laughed out loud. A guy at work keeps asking me what was so funny. I guess some people just don't have a sense of humor.

To be fair, there is very little that is fun about graduation ceremonies. I actually think I would prefer surgery to attending one.

I talked with him and here is what he said.... The graduation problems have been blown out of proportion.

 

The ones arrested were resisting and got very loud. They were told not to disrupt the ceremony.

Some people are just rude an obnoxious and that is the way they are. It makes it very miserable for those of us that are trying to follow protocol. All I wanted to do at my daughters graduation is smack about half a dozen of the idiots. I got to set there and watch them , hear them, and their stupid air horns that two of the nuts brought , and I then missed seeing my daughter get her diploma because of the people that had no respect for anybody else and blocked our view. All the while our police force stood calmly by at the corners of the gym and were out in twilight zone somewhere. :madman::madman: At least these police tried to restore some decency to the event.

I've never heard of police at a high school graduation before. This is a shocker.
