As I mentioned in the General Discussion forum, I just finished reading The Da Vinci Code for the first time and watch the movie several times. I am not saying that I believe that this is true. But what if there really was a blood line of Jesus Christ?

 

Would he be any less miraculous to you? Would it really change anything?

 

IMO, the only thing it would do is show how corrupt that the establishment of church can actually be, but I kinda already feel that way some...that many things in the past and even know have been manipulated.

 

But what do you all think...I find this topic interesting and would love to discuss it.

Doesn't mean it can't create an interesting discussion. And how is it not possible? Many things have been changed and been manipulated throughout the many years and the many translations of the bible. This is highly unlikely that there is a blood line, but I still think it can cause a fun conversation.

In the world of "what if?" any scenario is possible.

 

As to The Da Vinci Code, almost all of the "data" he used was either fabricated or brought pieces of history together to show ties and links that really did not exist from a historian's point of view. If you research the archives of BGP you might still find some threads that dealt with all of this that documents the many egregious errors Mr. Brown made in his history in the book.

I suppose I can't quite figure out why it would be so bad if there was a blood line of Jesus. What if he were married? What if he did have a child? What would be so wrong with that?

 

I know I am a Catholic but that doesn't stop me from having my own opinions. I think Jesus had such a hard life and struggled so much for all of us, that I just hope that he did find someone to love.

I am with you RebelK. I never really gave much thought to it until after watching the movie. I know the topics causes a little bit of an uproar, but I am not sure what the big deal is. To me that doesn't change anything.

 

But I believe people get upset about it because it is so against what the church says. Also, in many people's eyes I believe that it would make him seem more mortal.

But like the book suggests, what if it was mentioned and removed at the Council of Nicea (This meeting really did happen, I am not saying the left things out of the story...but the meeting happened). I mean the bible has definitely changed over the years, a small but perfect example...

 

Jesus had 12 disciples and as far as we know one was named James. However, before the King James version of the bible was ever written there was not a disciple named that (of coarse the names were in German, or another language, but nothing translates to James). King Jame wanted his name in the bible, so he omitted one of the disciples and now we have a disciple name James. Small, but just a small example.

I asked a friend of mine once if he believed life existed on other planets. His answer was no. If there was it would be mentioned in the bible. Not saying that applies to your answer but it did remind of that story.

:confused: I think you've been reading Dan Brown too long. :lol:

 

Where did you get that James story? You do realize that there were English translations before the King James Version, don't you? FYI, the NT was first written in Greek (not German???).

 

As for the Council of Nicea did not meet to choose a Canon of Scripture but to address heresies in the church. (Marcion to be exact if my memory recalls)
