June 9, 200818 yr Driving to the office this morning. Saw gas at 4.00 for the first time on Hurstbourne Parkway. The BP at I-64 interchange was $4.06
June 9, 200818 yr Question....does anyone think that the "terrorist threat" actually has us right where they want us at this point? They attacked us. We responded (appropriately, IMO) with action in Afghanistan. Then, somehow (irrationally, IMO), we decide to take over Iraq. Now, we're mired in a money-sucking situation, and we're suffering economically, weakening us (IMO) more than if we'd have stayed out of Iraq and concentrated our efforts in Afghanistan. Anyone who thinks terrorists are only about bombings and attacks on targets is thinking short-sightedly, IMO. They're smarter than we give them credit for, and IMO, we've played right into their hands.

I'm going to mind read for a moment as some on here do in already knowing how Oboma will deal with issues. They attacked while W was president, because they knew we would end up in Iraq.
June 9, 200818 yr I don't think they knew we'd wind up in Iraq, but us going there certainly didn't upset them, IMO. They attacked the World Trade Center-financial center of the US. That is undisputable. The action of the attack was meant to hurt us not only in the loss of lives, and the onset of fear, but financially. IMO they knew we would retaliate, and obviously we did....we went after Bin Ladin in Afghanistan. But, I don't think they would have anticipated our action in Iraq. But, when it did come about, they were probably quite pleased.
June 9, 200818 yr For any SUV or large pickup truck owners thinking of trading them in to get a more fuel-efficient vehicle, be warned that there is currently very little value in your trade. Some dealers are now simply not taking them in knowing they cannot sell them. I'll give you a real-world recent example: A guy bought a new truck a few months ago and wanted to trade it in. Beautiful truck with 8,000 miles on it. He still owed $32,000. Dealer offered him $16k and really didn't want the truck.

It was a completely irrational response. And, like you, I think the outcome has worked out better than al Qaeda could have ever imagined. They have been able to leverage their tiny organization into a position where the mightiest military in the world has been held down in Iraq for going on six years to the eventual tune of trillions of dollars and thousands of American lives. It would have been impossible to conceive that the actions of a handful could bleed the United States so effectively.
June 9, 200818 yr Rockmom, I think you are right on and not many people realize it. These terrorist are hitting us where it hurts the most, which is funny because there hasn't been an attack on our country for some time. And why should they...more are affected now because of this. They are definitely smarter than many give them credit for.

June 9, 200818 yr What can be done, if anything to correct these skyrocketing prices. Can our Ambassadors, meet with their leaders and try to resolve the crisis. Are there any refineries, that can be updated/improved to offset the production costs and escalating prices. What are viable options?

June 9, 200818 yr Nope. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/05/29/AR2008052904116_pf.html I think you've missed my point entirely.
June 9, 200818 yr This could all be avoided if we just got our oil from within the US instead of overseas. BTW, even with as bad as gas prices are getting, the US is still much cheaper than almost everyone else out there.
June 9, 200818 yr I think you've missed my point entirely. How so? I answered your question. I don't think they're anywhere near having us where they want us. Please elaborate.
