New Coach at Clay County

Featured Replies

Heard that Head Coach stepped down yesterday. Was this a planned thing, really close to the start of the session to be looking for a new coach? Who will be his replacement.

Will they give the job to a local boy? They had a great coaching staff in the early to mid 90's.

Man he seem to have that program on the right track

It will be either Shannon Arnett or Jamie Gilbert

The school board held a special meeting last night to discuss it. It seems the principal and superintendant fail to mention their intentions with each other. Jamie Gilbert was offered the job by principal and Shannon Arnett was offered job by superintendant.

Typical Clay County. Arnett is the best man for the job IMO. Lots of experience and has the qualities the tigers have been missing for some time. Toughness and some focus on defense.

Two head coaches that is very interseting.

I don't know what will happen but I believe both, the principal and superintendant, should have brought their ibtentions up in a board meeting first. After all, no one can be hired or fired without board approval.

I was told that Shannon was already in the process of moving his family because he was lead to believe he already had job.

I was also told that if Jamie wanted the job it is his. The board wanted to give him the option before anybody else would be considered

So, you're saying the school board hires football coaches in Clay County?

The school board hires everyone... teachers, teacher's aides, principals, etc.

In Clay County or everywhere? Because if it's "everywhere," I'm sure you are wrong.

I'm not sure what he meant, but technically, he is right. Even if the principal hires a coach, the school board has to actually hire him/her also. All the employees of a school do work for the school district.

I know it is semantics, but still true.

To use the proper terminology, the principal, or the AD, "selects" the coach and the school board "hires" the coach.

Does the board have an option anymore on whether to hire someone selected by the principal?
