No, it's not everywhere... I should have made myself more clear. In other places(states), the principal essentially makes the decision(s) and the school board pretty much "goes with it".

School Boards hire only the Superintendent. The Superintendent offically hires everyone in the school system, but with that being said, the proceedure for this hiring is as follows, the vacant job is posted for 30 days, A waiver may be granted by KDE and someone can be hired before the deadline of the posting date. The building PRINCIPAL interviews potential canidates for the position and after consultation with his or her SBDM council he or she submits a recomendation to the Superintendent for the position. By law, the Superintendent MUST ACCEPT the recomendation of the School Principal for the position.

It is my understanding that by law the school board can NOT deal with employees, such as hiring and firing. However what goes on behind closed doors in another issue. They hire the superintendet, who hires the principal, who hires the coach. So is the principal going to go against the superintendent more than likely NOT. So with that in mind who has the job?

Heard that the guy that came from Florida was looking at house in Clay and fell and had a bad accident. Does anyone know if he is doing OK?

I'm not sure what he meant, but technically, he is right. Even if the principal hires a coach, the school board has to actually hire him/her also. All the employees of a school do work for the school district.

 

I know it is semantics, but still true.

 

To use the proper terminology, the principal, or the AD, "selects" the coach and the school board "hires" the coach.

 

Actually I think it is the Site Based Council who does the hiring upon the recomendation of the principal. Of course many times it is the Supt. who makes the decision and it is passed on to the principal then to the site based council.

 

 

I am sure there will be some split loyalties in Mancester over this one.

Of course this is all taking place in Clay County and sometimes they play by different rules. (anyone who has seen basketball there knows that.....joking)

They say he will recover but will be in some pain for a while.

People, the BUILDING PRINCIPAL does all hiring in the school. Not the SBDM Council, Not the B.O.E. and not the Superintendent.

The school board hires everyone... teachers, teacher's aides, principals, etc.
