I have a question: as many of you know, I have not been informed about politics for a long time, and what was it about Cheney that made Bush choose him?

According to the experts in the liberal mainstream media at the time, Bush picked Cheney because Bush had no gravitas. Bush had no gravitas because he had no foreign policy experience, having merely served as the governor of one of the nation's most populous states.

Apparently, Obama acquired the necessary gravitas by virtue of his experience as an Illinois state legislator and through his vast experience as a US Senator. The word gravitas is rarely heard when discussing Senatory Obama's candidacy despite his questionable qualifications and experience.

Cheney served in various capacities in the Nixon and Ford administrations before he was elected to six terms in the US House of Representatives. Cheney then served as Secretary of Defense during the very successful Gulf War.

President Bush asked Cheney to chair his VP search committee and then surprised most people when he made Cheney his running mate at the end of the process.

I'm going with Haley Barbour to bring in the south and conservatives of the party.

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal is getting mentioned as a possible running mate in the NY Times. How about a 2nd generation Indian-American Catholic for VP?

I like it.

Who will it be? I haven't seen any speculation anywhere on the matter....

^McCain's Mate (not the pretty blonde)???

I would like to see Steve Forbes.

I don't see that happening!

This link isn't working. It just takes me to the PR forum.

I think he would be wise to choose Mitt Romney. Romney has a business and economic background that could be valuable for McCain in the public's decision to vote for him.

Exactly my thoughts. McCain certainly needs no help in foreign policy, but is IMO pretty weak on economic issues, and a person like Romney, who has proven success in the business world would be perfect. I think it would also ring in some of the more far right leaning conservatives who see McCain as "too liberal" for their vote.

I believe a large number of conservative activists wrote an open letter saying that they would not support McCain if he chose Romney.
