Bruce Called Up By Monday?

Featured Replies

From John Fay

He did take a side trip on the way to St. Louis to see Jay Bruce play at Louisville.

"I told him to be patient," Jocketty said. "What he's doing is not going unnoticed. Keep working. He went out and went 2-for-4 with a home run."

I'm saying with prediction that Bruce gets the call when the Reds return home. Again, that's just a hunch.

If he gets the call it will IMO be a DFA for Patterson to clear the spot. I think we'd all agree at this point that it would be a good move...

I have a feeling that Westsider would disagree.:D

Actually, I might.

Patterson isn't a bad player to have on the roster. He's a left-handed hitter with some pop and speed and he's a good defensive outfielder, good enough to play any of the three positions. He's not a bad extra outfielder, but when he has to start a game or two, you don't hit him at the top of the order.

Did you see that "good" defensive play he made in the outfield last night? Couldn't catch a routine fly ball. I don't care what the wind did to it, he should've caught the ball.

Corey Patterson is an average defensive centerfielder.

He's a career .257 hitter (.220 this season). He has some speed, but in the 37 or so times he's been on base this season he's been caught stealing 3 times. He's not a bad guy to have on the roster because, when he's hot, he can contribute. But everything that you said CP can do, Jay Bruce can do better.

I understand Bruce isn't a natural CF. That's fine; however, there's no excuse to leave a guy in AAA who is playing that well and leave multiple guys in the MLB when they're playing that horribly.

Have you been reading my posts? I've been advocating bringing Bruce up for a week or two ... Patterson and Freel's presence on the roster are no reasons to keep Bruce in Louisville.

There's nothing wrong with bringing up Bruce and keeping Patterson around as an extra outfielder, especially with some of the other dead weight (Hatteberg, perhaps Valentin) on the roster.

Unfortunately you have to keep Hatte or Valentin, to back up 1st. If I had to choose I would keep Javy.

Bruce coming up could be the spark needed to get on track before it is too late.

I think Jay is ready for his callup.

No pressure

Can you explain?

Expecting a guy with no MLB experience to be the spark is crazy. How about the vets; Dunn, Griffey, Edwin , and Phillips provide that spark. Same thing was laid in Homer's lap last year. It's not right.

Some handle pressure better than others, in my opinion Bruce will be just fine. The only pressure he will have, he will put on himself.

Comparing Bruce and Homer, is like night and day.

Are you kidding me? Although I agree with the fact that Dunn, Jr., E5 and BP need to step up, I don't think that this kid is gonna have the weight of the world on his shoulders. I mean, the Reds are in the cellar, no one in their right mind is predicting him to be a savior. I actually agree that if he plays well he may provide a "spark" to this flat team. But to infer that he's anything more than a kid with a shot in the show is silly, IMO.
