May 10, 200818 yr We have done it before, Dresden and Wurzburg come to mind along with Monte Cassino. The "makes us no better than them" argument is irrelevant to me. In a war the innocent sometimes have to die, it is not a desirable outcome but sometimes it has to be done. For what it is worth I don't think we are "just crazy enough to make a parking lot out of their country," mostly because the majority of Americans have an idealistic outlook of conflict and can't understand that the "bad guys" and "good guys" are a purely subjective concept. They don't have the stomach to do what is necessary when it comes down to it. Do I want to do that sort of thing? No, I would rather not have people die. Not so much because I find all life sacred and needing to be protected, if I did I would be a Buddhist monk in seclusion so as t avoid harming any sort of living thing. No, it is more because I know how much I would prefer to live and I would suppose that their desire is similar. You speak of it as if it is a bad thing. Maybe its not that we dont have the guys, maybe its because we arent comfortable with ending lives because we still have a spark of innocence. Maybe this world can still work///
May 10, 200818 yr I don't know to much about this topic, but as far as I know, there seems to be more bad that comes out of Palestine than good. There are many terrorist groups who support Palestine. For example, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Hamas and many other terrorist groups who have murdered innocent people via suicide bombings and other forms of terrorist attacks. Both PIJ and Hamas have had factions working inside the U.S. (pre-9/11) claiming to be charities. One of those was the Holy Land Foundation, which was a front for Hamas. I don't know why anyone in America would support Palestine along side people like that.

I thought you were Catholic PepRock... boy was I wrong. :sssh: You must not be a big fan of the last pope!
May 11, 200818 yr Then we need to eradicate them before they do us. If some collateral damage ensues then it is unfortunate, but I won't shed a tear. Gooch it is best you don't try to talk to me from a "moral" standpoint in a case like this. I don't care about moral high ground one iota where a war is concerned. If there was an actual invasion of Israel (whether they deserve the land or not) by Iran or SPONSORED by Iran I would wholeheartedly endorse sending squadrons of bombers and many a flight of missiles into Iran to erase it from the map. Much like Rome once salted the earth in Carthage. That being said I would rather it not come to that as it could lead to a further waste in human resources by many countries. Calling Rockmom..... You may need to counsel all of these little testosterone-filled, gun-toting, war-mongering, young boys on here! :argue:

May 12, 200818 yr In a war the innocent sometimes have to die, it is not a desirable outcome but sometimes it has to be done. This thought makes us no better than our enemies.
May 12, 200818 yr This thought makes us no better than our enemies. If you had read above, at what point do you think that matters to me? Victory, survival and the eradication of the enemy are important in war, "moral highground" in the most inherently immoral of all human endavours, is irrelevent.
May 12, 200818 yr Author This thought makes us no better than our enemies. This thought makes it difficult to conceive how we can ever win another war. Once you believe that the loss of any innocent lives is an unacceptable loss in a war, they you cannot win a war with those who believe otherwise. Some responsibility must be borne by those who allow terrorists to operate among their midst with impunity. If we make the taking of innocent lives a goal in war, then we will be on the same level as our enemies. This country has gone to greater lengths to develop precision weapons that minimize the loss of civilian life than any other nation in the history of the planet. The constant attempt by some liberals to draw a moral equivalency between Hezbollah and other terrorist groups and Israel or the United States is sickening to witness.
May 12, 200818 yr I am signing up to spend my summer working for a Palestinian Medical Aid Center next year That's awesome, but if your passport says USA on it, I would strongly consider writing up your will before going over there for that kind of work for an extensive amount of time.

I can't believe it but I actually agree with that second paragraph. :scared: "I tell you, it's the end of the world." :thumb:
