Justin Sherlock should be good this year.

Losing 16 seniors from last years squad is going to be a challenge for Coach Deaton. Mostly were all starters at key positions. Their qb from last years team is returning so they are going to have to build around him. I see this team using some freshman to play in key positions this year. This just might be a rebuilding year for the GreenDevils.

The first thing for Deaton to address is the "heart". Last years team and many of the previous teams had good talent, but put them in a situation that they have to dig deep and they give up. The chance to beat Beechwood last year, twice, should have been insentive enough to take there game to the next level. I dont want to hear about the one drive, the fan base seemed to cherish this past year, just look at the game, fell apart after they were scored on by Elliot.

Come on Deaton, your gonna have a young team. Teach them what counts, pride.

Don't pick on Dayton for losing to Beechwood. They were a solid class "A" team, but still not in the same tier as Beechwood. They beat much larger schools in Scott and Holmes (in the final minute). Beat a good Lynn Camp team and won the first "Battle for the Paddle" against Bellevue. They can have all the heart in the world and it still would not have made a difference. Sorry.

From what I've heard recently, in order to "build" around the QB, Coach D is going to have to get a few of the young guys (including that QB) to step up academically or they may not be eligible enough to make a difference. To build a team means building character and making the commitment on and off the field. Come on devils......the numbers aren't high enough to lose bodies needlessly. Stay commited!:thumb:

Granted they were out manned, but they gave up after the first series, twice! its unfortunate that they have to play the tigers year in and year out but at least try.

I don't like to get too controversial, but I have to take great exception to this. If you want to discount Dayton, do it for their lacking numbers, do it for them falling apart in big games, do it for lacking depth, but do not question that teams pride. Maybe they should have put up a better fight in a couple games last year, and maybe they should have won a few games that they didn't, but don't question those guys heart. Anyone that knows anything about football in Dayton knows how prideful about football not only the players are, but the entire city. Yeah I know all about the big followings the big football powers have, but its different in small cities and small schools. They know that when they strap up those chin straps and fly that green and white there is a lot riding on it. They do try. They may get down too easily and be "beaten by a name" at some points in the past but they know pride.

There are some things that still need to be worked on at Dayton to achieve great success. There are some things that have been greatly improved in the past few years. One thing that they haven't lacked is pride....

They have a good QB, they need to develop some weapons for him to throw the ball to so he can use that arm. Also, they need to make sure he is adequately protected by developing some of those younger linemen. Their backfield should be set with the Richardson kid who excelled in short yardage last year and a few smaller quick guys providing a lot of speed out of the backfield.

Again your "pride" for the Dayton program allows you to sugar coat thier performance and lack of the same, dont get me wrong I appreciate a loyal fan and that you are sir. However, for what the Dayton boys accomplished last year, beating bigger and better programs "consistantly!!!" how can they be beaten by a name. Is that not a lack of belief in thier program, ergo PRIDE?

With the QB skills of Justin Sherlock, and the power running game of Michael Richardson, the Devils will be a contender in thier division. With the addition of Chris " Masher " Lewallen, Chis Pompilio (one of the best defense of players in Northern Ky), and Michael "The Bus" Richardson (two-platooning). The Middle of thier Def will be intact for a couple of years. Let's just say, there will be some serious hitting going on and also some kids playing with some heart and pride. Good Luck!!

No, thats not pride, that is a mental thing that stems from before their upswing the past few years. Its not like they go out there wanting to get beat, but when in your career there hasn't been a game played close with a team such as Beechwood etc., it is hard for them to not get down on themselves and have that "hear we go again" thought cross your mind. If they had superior talent, then it might be easier, but they aren't. They had a lot of talent last year, but not more than Beechwood. Could/Should they have gave them a better game? Yes, but that is a mental thing, not pride. They try to beat them, they want to win the game. Maybe it will be changing here in a couple years. I think the Dayton freshman actually beat Beechwood's last season. Experiencing any kind of success against a team can do wonders for a team.

I don't know that anyone on Dayton's defense will be one of the best players in NKY, no on on the defense has much varsity playing experience except Richardson. They should be concentrating on filling in weapons for the passing game for Sherlock so he can use those "QB skills." They lost at least their top 4 receivers from last year...

It maybe a year when the Devils run power football, Old Mike Murphy style. And then, when you last expect it, Sherlock will be running around the end on a bootleg pass. Good Luck Boys!

Sherlock and Richardson will help them out alot this year.

Yeah losing 16 seniors is going to hurt us alot. But we put forth 110% more effort than ever and hope to come out on top this year. We have Micheal Richardson, Justin Sherlock and a freshman Chris Pompillio so we are going to have a few tricks up our sleeve. Holmes is our first test, until then.
