Mavericks fire Avery Johnson

Featured Replies

Josh Howard was inconsistent in terms of his play this year on both ends of the court. I think he wants a change of scenery based on his actions and comments over the last few months since the Kidd trade. I believe that his lack of quality play in the series was what hurt the Mavs during this play-off run and that is the sentiment here in Dallas from most fans and the media.

I think the Mavs should have kept Avery and over-hauled the roster, but that wasn't going to happen because Cuban is not an Avery fan.

Bad thing is they invested a lot in to the Kidd trade and are stuck with not a lot of room to maneuver.

The Mavs are in a bad spot now, IMO. I did not like the Kidd trade when it happened and it turned out even worse than I expected. I expected them to have more success during the regular season, but I knew he would be exposed in the playoffs when forced to go against the younger and quicker point guards in the west. They would have stood a much better chance against New Orleans had they kept Devin Harris, IMO...not that he could have stopped Chris Paul, but he could have made things a little tougher. Kidd was completely overmatched...

The Mavericks missed their opportunity two years ago when they should have won the championship and then last year when they blew it as the top seed...they're on the way down now with little room to maneuver, as you said, and the rising talent in the western conference.

Portland is a team to watch for...they won 41 games this year in the ultra-competitive western conference...they're going to get a lottery pick and a healthy Greg Oden. They could become a factor in the west real fast if things work out.

Mavs have never recovered from the Miami series a couple of years ago...

In retrospect, the deal for Kidd was a bad one. But Paul is going to present matchup problems for just about anyone.

Why?

Haven't you seen that thing around his head?

Yeah and he admitted to smoking grass during the off season.

Howard is a stud, and going to be for years to come.. Do you watch the NBA?

Yes I do watch the NBA and had 4 fantasy NBA teams.

Howard got the team off track with what he said earlier in the week.

Yeah Dirk has been a great team leader... He has taken them places...

They went to the finals a few years back right around the time the emergence of a second big time scorer... Who was that again?

Bottom line, Avery wasn't the problem. This team has chemistry issues.

Yeah and he admitted to smoking grass during the off season.

Thing is, I'm sure the guys on the team knew that. I dont think it effected anything.

Trading Harris was not the right move. I didn't get that trade when they made it.

Dirk is soft and folds under pressure. I'd stick with Howard.

...and Avery was not the problem. He should still be there.

Some other team will pick him up and he will be a great coach in the league for a long time. I hope so, because I don't think I could handle him as an announcer.

This just proves it is a business.
