A mild upset and a nice win for the Royals tonight. Back-to-back wins after an extended losing streak. Maybe the bats are starting to heat up just a little as the mercury rises. Miscues on defense for the Royals were kept to a minimum tonight as well.

 

Gritty pitching performance from soph LH Keegan Burney, giving up one earned run and three hits in his six innings of work. SP Estes for CC made Burney pay for his one mistake of the game, hitting a 2-run shot. Burney was able to keep the middle of the Camel lineup off balance for most of the night.

 

The Royals scored all 5 of their runs in one inning, capitalizing on several Camel miscues. Key hit of the inning was a homer by CF Richie Cox, who got a second chance after a dropped foul pop. Cox also made a stellar diving catch in shallow center for the final out of the game after CC had closed to within one run.

 

3B Eric Meadows made several nice plays tonight. C Clayton England seems to be getting the bat on the ball as well as anyone in the lineup. SS Woods had a real nice defensive play on a grounder that was just out of Meadows' reach.

 

I'm not claiming that Mason County is to be confused with a powerhouse, but putting two wins together after losing something like nine straight is encouraging.

Bobby Estes pitched for the Camels and deserved a better fate. All five Royal runs in the second were unearned. Camels were impatient at the plate and totaled six hits for the game. The Royals had four hits. Royals made the plays when they had too and deserved the win.

Runners reach on errors? Was error given for the dropped foul ball? Not sure, just possibilities.

Yep, that's the way it went. Royals scored all 5 runs in the second; I wasn't scoring the game but I'm thinking they were all unearned. A couple of runners reached via error, and the drop on Cox's pop down the first-base line, if scored an error, would make the third of his RBIs (driving in himself) unearned as well.

 

Camels scored 2 in the 6th on the Estes shot, two more in the 7th. They just made more mistakes than the Royals last night.

 

HRs in two straight for Cox (and the wind was blowing in last night), which is a good sign for the Royals, and a MUCH better overall defensive effort.

If there are two outs and an error is made that would have resulted in the third out had it not been made, all runs scoring after that error are unearned, whether its a home run or not.

I'll have to see the rule book to believe that. Wouldn't the hitter count as an earned run regardless? Although the foul out was dropped, the next pitch the kid hits a bomb? I'd say atleast the one was earned.

Errors count as un earned runs. The hitter that scored on the three run home run would be earned, but if the other two runners reached on error , they count as unearned.
