I would call this a minor upset.

 

Especially the way the Camels have been playing lately.

If there are two outs and an error is made that would have resulted in the third out had it not been made, all runs scoring after that error are unearned, whether its a home run or not.

 

The fielder would have had to be charged with an error on the pop foul for the hitter to be an unearned run. Was the foul ball charged as an error??? If I am not mistaken the foul ball hit the sign in right field and was not a routine catch the fielder didn't even touch it as it hit the metal sign???????? And didn't one of the runners reach on balls??? That is not an error so that run would be earned also. Good scenario for the scorer!!!!! Interesting.:confused:

Not too concerned about the scoring in the book instead of the scoring on the field.

There were 2 outs when the error was made. That would have been the 3rd out. All of the runs after that were unearned because we should have been out of the inning.

found this in rule book. Base on balls not error. It is pitcher's fault.

10.18 An earned run is a run for which the pitcher is held accountable. In determining earned runs, the inning should be reconstructed without the errors (which include catcher's interference) and passed balls, and the benefit of the doubt should always be given to the pitcher in determining which bases would have been reached by errorless play. For the purpose of determining earned runs, an intentional base on balls, regardless of the circumstances, shall be construed in exactly the same manner as any other base on balls.

An earned run is a run that is ruled by the official scorer to have resulted exclusively from actions by the batting team and not because of errors by the defense. When the fielding team makes an error or passed ball, the scorer is supposed to "reconstruct" the inning assuming that the defensive miscue did not occur. Only runs that would have scored barring the miscue are considered earned; all others are considered to be unearned.

Walks aren't unearned, unless they too occurred after what would've been the third out.

The ball hit the fielder in the glove (no sign involved), so yes, it should be considered an error. It would've been the third out, AND Cox wouldn't have had the chance to hit the home run.

If an error occurs that would have resulted in the inning ending then the ensuing runs would be unearned. I dont understand where the walk or bases on ball situation came into play. The error that was made before the kid hit the home run was by the previous batter. This enabled the kid that hit the homerun to have the opportunity to hit. Bases on balls are always an earned run unless the inning should have been over.

Absolutely, they beat a Camels team that had just won 7 straight games. They just wanted this one more than the Camels.

I wasn't aware so many people didn't know how earned and unearned runs are determined. It's easy. The pitcher is supposed to get three outs. If his defense doesn't get him those outs as they occur the official scorer keeps track as if they do. Once the pitcher has done his job and gotten his three outs, real or not (error), then he is off the hook for earned runs and all runs scored after this are declared unearned. You can give up ten HR's after getting your three "outs" and all ten runs are unearned.

So then we can equate keeping score to doing calculus........................ In calculus you are working with imaginary numbers in an imaginary plane of existence, so the kid hit a homerun but because of the error(which I am not sure it was scored as) which occurred prior to the homerun, was an unearned imaginary run that scored two other unearned imaginary runs in a plane of existence where the batting team did not score the runs but the team in the field gave them through their imaginary pitch which the batter took it yard using his imaginary bat.
