Ah, A little taste of Russell arrogance from someone with just enough pride to switch schools and give up. Did you ever stop to think that if it wasnt for athletes like you and many others who have transfered to other school's, that GC might have a little better record against Russell. To say that the only chance GC has is to pray for more Russell screw ups is pompous and frankly unbelievable.

 

I am a Red Devil fan to its fullest extent, but I must agree with Coupon21. Too many kids are going to nearby schools because they are not satisfied with their own athletics at the school closest to them. Its hard to keep a good team when your players are switching to teams like Raceland and Russell and Ashland. A few I know have left for playing time and a few I know left because of politics in the athletic system. Sammons does a great job and when he started calling the plays from above the win/loss ratio only improved. We are all in different classes (A,AA.AAA..etc) so we shouldn't dog each other so much and start pulling for each other.

Just kidding. I know what you mean, and I am the same way, I was glad to Greenup Co have the playoff success they had last year, and hope they do it again. I was also glad to see Russell make it the Championship game twice. I, like both of you, root for the area schools, except when they are playing Raceland.

:laugh: Sorry Ram, I didnt mean to hurt your feelings, As hard as it is, I root for the Rams every now and then also. Being friends with a few assistant coaches (Fannin,Maynard) makes it hard not to pull that way. I told my dad last week. If TJ and Gary would leave, I could really hate Raceland like I want too.:lol: Just kiddin Ram.

I understand, there are to many connections between the three schools in Greenup Co to hate any of them.

 

On a side note, I stood and talked to Mike Sammons at the East-West game. We talked for a while about Raceland, Russell, and Greenup Co. I enjoyed it. I love to talk football with other schools coaches, you get a different perspective then talking to fans, parents, and players.

I stood right beside him and the rest of his coaching staff all night, we must have been real close , and didnt even know it. I thought my ram-dar was going crazy a few times.

Haven't seen alot posted on this thread for awhile so I thought I would spark it back to life. May be off the subject a tad but still routes back to Greenup Football. How is the theater program coming along with your youngest players. Thus meaning McKell, Greysbranch, Wurtland ect.... I think having a good program for the youth really helps a high school program. I know at Russell we started flag the last 10 yrs or so because we were losing so many kids to soccer. But without soccer where would we get a kicker...LOL I know McKell always used to do well. Going "Old School" one coach I learned the most from was a Coach Nobel from down from Mckell. Taught me how to read backs at an early age. My wife is from Greenup and she said that Greenup losses alot of their kids to the farms they have to help work when school is over. Greenup has loads of talent...it just might be hard to reach some of them because of their lack of time.

I believe Roger and Darin Vanover are taking over the McKell 7&8 grade football school program. :fight:

I echo your sentiments oldrambler. I wish Greenup Co. luck, and hope they have another playoff run. Of course I will have to root against them for one game, but the better teams we have in the area, the better for all the teams in the area.
