From looking at the scores and looking at blogs i think that Cov Cath is the leader right now.

They could have two kids who top out at 70, but one likes to locate his fastball moving it around the zone and mixing up two seamers versus four seamers, and the other might like to throw a get ahead fastball and then try to get you out with some junk pitches. Those would be two totally different pitchers.

 

Add to that their mechanics and release point. Every kid is different, which means every hitter has to adjust.

Based on the scores the 9th should be a wide open tournament this year. That makes it fun to watch.

Velocity is so overrated in the high school game. They will be fine throwing from the right side even if its at 65 to 70 if they can locate and keep the ball down and change speeds.

 

You are so right about velocity being over rated. There has been only one pitcher in the past five or six years from the 9th Region hat could consitently throw in the 90's but he had poor control. In the same time there have been a number of very, very good high school pitchers come out of the region that did not come close to his speed. Pithcing is all control, control and control.

Well you obviously did since you didn't even mention them in the first post of this thread. . .:bunny:

Hmmm so pitching could be considered a weak point of the Tigers

 

I would say that pitching is their strong point. The most runs they have given up this year in a game is 7 and that was against Bullitt East and aided by 3 errors. After looking at the scoreboard here on BGP and todays Dixie Game they have given up 28 runs in 10 games. 2.8 runs per game given up is very,very, good in high school. The weak point is there hitting and in order to win big games they are going to have to hit.

Why hasn't anyone thrown Newcath into the equation? They are 8-3, won the All "A" and also have a pretty decent rotation with Enzweiler, Pangallo, and Connor and Heinrichs. Lipscomb has been very productive as a reliefer. They play very good small ball.

How is Johnny Pabst playing for NewCath?

I have been to about 5 games of Newcath and Pabst has been nothing but spectacular defensivly. Blocking every ball in the dirt, throwing about every base runner but one or two. Offensivly is struggling a little bit. Hitting the ball hard, not finding the gaps. Needs to be more aggressive and not so patient. But is having a great year so far.

I watched NCC and HC in the all A and both are contenders as far as I am concerned. Conner is hot as well, despite the set back to Boone tonight.

 

Fact is though, it doesn't matter as long as you're playing well in May.

 

The 9th is as wide open for about seven or eight teams this year as it has ever been.

Im just going to say flat out...there is not a "BEST TEAM" in the 9th region this year. Like DD said its whoever is hot in May.
