I certainly wasn't there and wouldn't have stayed if I had been, but you've got to admit a 58-0 baseball game is about like a 250-300--0 football game; and both are very preventable!!

 

:thumb: 75-0 in football is like 15-0 in baseball. 58 runs is just ridiculous. I hope this doesn't happen but this is the kind of loss that could completely end a program. Absolutely avoidable by AC yet the coaches still allowed it to happen.

Maybe you should apply for the head coaching position at Eminence.

I would have forfeited the game rather than put my boys through such a beating. I don't blame Anderson County. What are they supposed to do? Bat blindfolded? Tie their shoestrings together? Give up their gloves? Every kid that comes up to bat has a vested interest in the outcome of his at bat just like the pitcher has a vested interest in every pitch he throws.

Having watched my two Sons play for Eminence, being an atheltic Coach for Emience the last 5 years and having been a dedicated Warrior supporter for the last 20 years, I can tell you that we have learned to deal with not being able to compete with the bigger schools on a regular basis. What we do offer is chance for every kid to have the experience to compete if they so chose, and make them realize that there is much more to be gained than just WINNING. Yes I was at the game and other than the AC coach not allowing his runners not to advance after a hit saw no evidence of him trying to hold down the score. Eminence has a new coaching staff with a VERY young and inexperienced team and were missing several kids that day. No they didn't quit, they never stopped trying and when the game over I believe their heads were not as low as were the AC players!! HANG IN THERE WARRIORS

They have 1 seventh, 3 eighth, and 5 freshman on the team!!!!!!!!!!

And it is exactly that type of selfish attitude that the entire Anderson team must have displayed that night - it is far more important to get a hit and boost your personal average than to worry about pummeling and humiliating a group of much younger and obviously-overmatched boys. As has been stated throughout this thread, there are things that a coach can do to help hold down a score that don't include having your players whiff on purpose or tieing your shoe strings together. Based on the comment of the Eminence AD, it appears that no such effort was made. Sad. Selfish. And exactly the type of "me-first" attitude I do not want my son to learn from playing high school baseball or to learn about life in general.

We played in a tournament last summer at Anderson Co. and I find it hard to believe that the guys that ran that tourney for their high school team would beat someone so unmercifully like this. There is just no excuse to do that to any team, there is nothing gained from continually beating someone that bad. It is hard to ask your kids to not try, but I cannot imagine the boys from Anderson didn't feel bad for the kids from Eminence and also that the parents from either side didn't come unglued, it had to be horrible to see your boys pounded like that. As a coach my self, I personally would feel very guilty in crushing any kids spirits that way, no matter what anyone here has said, this could have been avoided or definitely lessened. And yes, in 20+ years of coaching, my teams have both handed out and received some butt whippings, but nothing to this extreme.

What difference would it make? They were up 32-0 after the 1st. Would you have them put in a lesser pitcher so that the other team might get some hits and extend the game. That game needed to be over ASAP.

 

It seems that many on here are of the opinion that not only should Anderson not try to score, but that perhaps they should let Emenience get a few hits, score a few runs to make them feel better about themselves of something. This isn't youth league baseball, this is high school.

I am undecided what side of this argument I am on, but how do you know that Anderson Co. didn't have another game coming up and needed to rest the other pitchers?

If Eminence has such a young team, why are they playing a varsity schedule? AC leaving their pitcher in to complete the game was a terrible move. You cant tell me they dont have a young pitcher who doesnt see much of the mound who couldnt have come in and finished the game.
