Anibal Sanchez of the Marlins threw a no-hitter in 2006 ... some around the team said he hasn't been the same since then, and he missed most of last season with shoulder problems.

He only threw 103 pitches in that game, but it was in the midst of a stretch in which he threw 100+ pitches in six straight starts.

Sanchez wasn't that good before that.
Look at his 2006 numbers ... 10-3 with a 2.83 ERA and 90 hits allowed in 114 innings.

Yeah, he really stunk ... exactly what part of his performance that year "wasn't that good?"

He had a lot of hard hit balls that year that were right at people. Plus, sometimes a new pitcher with new stuff can be effective. As I said before, with him it was a progression, it wasnt the one game that did him.

You can try to dissect it all you want, but Sanchez was a highly-regarded prospect that had a heck of a rookie season.

Yeah, like every rookie pitches that well in his first 18 starts ...
I have seen 3 outs on 3 pitches several times during my lifetime and I don't even watch a whole lot of baseball. Its very possible to record 3 outs on less than 5 pitches, for sure.

Name one instance when you have seen that. I have watched baseball religiously since I was a kid, and have NEVER seen that. Any major league with any lick of sense is going to take pitches if the first two guys were retired on one pitch a piece. Nobody is going to make their pitcher go back out there that quickly.

Cueto was facing the 2, 3, and 4 hitters. He had 10 k's and still had good velocity. I would have kept him in, and the REDS should make a note or rule not to pitch Weathers unless we are up 5. Hope Fogg goes at least 6 and keeps us in it tonite.

I pull him. How many young pitchers have had their arms wore out in their rookie seasons and never been the same. That is why the Yanks and Bosox were careful with Chamberlain and Buckholtz.

The REDS should make a note or rule not to pitch Weathers unless we are up 5.

Did you watch the Reds at all last year? Weathers was outstanding last year, yet you're blasting him after one bad outing this year. Nice.

The one I remember the most was Lohse last season when he was actually pitching for the Reds :thumb:

Never happened. He may have done it on 5 or 6 pitches, and that happens very, very rarely, but never 3. A manager will order a take sign before he allows that to happen.

For the record, that has actually happened 14 times since 1990 with notables such as Mariano Riveria, Randy Johnson (did it twice), Al Leiter, and Jack McDowell accomplishing the feat.

It definately happened, because I was watching that game.

Where did you find that stat?
