I'm sure I will get in this argument with someone every year until the day I die. What do you guys think? Tubby or Rick?

I watched from WalMart the UK dvd and it has I believe Shepard talking about how they ran Pitino's style with a mixture of Tubby's defense. I believe he also went back to state that is was more Pitino that Tubby. Thats coming from Shepard so it must be in the Bible somewhere, I'm not for sure what chapter and verse.

I don't remember them running Pitino's style at all really.

Is that because they were named the "Comeback Cats" and was always behind and Pitino's teams were usaually not behind?

Nope... style of play. I don't recall the '98 team being as up and down as traditional Ricky P teams.

As I recall they seem to start out slow and look for good shots. Then since that didn't work and they got behind("Comeback Cats") they had to put up some points quick and went to a more up-paced game.

Pretty sure that wasn't Ricky, who brought the Cats back in the regional final against dUKe. I believe they were down 18 with 9:00 to go, or something close to that. I had a good feeling in that game when, I believe there were 4:00 left and the dukies had to use their final 2 timeouts, just to get the ball in bounds. The look on Coach K's face was priceless when he realized he had 0 TO's left.

I recently watched the end of that game and am puzzled by one of Tubby's decisions. With four seconds left up two (maybe it was one), Duke had no timeouts left (as you mentioned), and Tubby called timeout to set up a defense despite Duke having to go the full length of the court. It ended up working out, obviously, and I guess after the '92 heart-breaker he didn't want to be unprepared. It just seems to me that it would be more of an advantage to not let Coach K draw up a play than to set up a defense. Turns out Duke had trouble inbounding it and gave it to William Avery about 90 feet from the basket. Sheppard turned him a couple times and Avery clanged about a 40 footer off the glass. Don't think I'll ever forget that game.

The University of Kentucky deserves the credit. Tubby had no NC and no final fours before he coached here and probably won't have another. Rick had a final four, but no title and has been at a very good basketball school for seven years now with one final four appearance. I say the UK name along with their coaching abilities got the players that were needed.

Well since it worked out then he was right and your are still questioning him. This was 10 years ago and my goodness some people should give it up. Tubby won and most people can't give him credit for something he did.

Rick Pitino. Easy choice for me. UK has not beat a team any higher than a five seed since 1998. That is all you need to know.

Can you vote for the players?

I think all of the credit goes to Scott Padgett, Jeff Shephard, Wayne Turner, Heshimu Evans, Allen Edwards, and Cameron Mills! :thumb:

I think the players deserve the majority of the credit. How ahrd can it be for a team to adjust to a new coach and stick together. We see so often when a new coach comes in players leave. We all saw how UK did with BCG at the reigns his first year. Slow, but came together, and stuck together. Let's give some credit to the players for hanging together and putting number 7 in the rafters.
