Perry is a good coach.

 

Good coaches do not have back to back losing seasons. Yes he won games when he had talent, but most all coaches can do that.

At the Sweet 16, I heard Breeden's name connected to Tates Creek.

Hatch would be a nice pick up for Rowan, but I don't know if they will get that lucky.

Everyone agrees talent makes good coaches...but to discredit Coach Perry on back to back losing seasons is baseless.

 

For the record, he did take a bunch that had a losing record in middle school and out of that group took them from 10-12 as 8th graders to 28-5 as Juniors and regional champions.

 

Do bad coaches lose 95% of scoring and rebounding in one year and all 5 starters and then win a regional titles????? Identify several coaches that have done that. 2003, Morgan was 24-7...2004, 28-5 with a brand new 5, only 1 player had ANY varsity experience. Included in that was a 20 game win streak, the longest among a 16th region team in quite a while.

Coach Perry had his chances to leave and did not, so I don't see him going to Rowan, but you never know. They would be very lucky to have him.

I agree. I think Perry is an excellent coach and he coaches the game to be played the way it is supposed to be played. I always respect that.:ylsuper:

This thread isn't about coach Perry at Morgan, but I'll throw in my 2 cents. He is an outstanding coach as Nets has pointed out. Yes he had talent, the Cougars may be down right now, but they are still competetive with most teams in the region. Most schools especially small schools would be glad to have a win total he's had in a so called down year. Ask West Carter, Elliott, Fairview, Rose Hill, Raceland or other schools that don't have a bunch of students I'm sure they can recall some of their own teams being worse than the last two Morgan County squads. Perry is a good coach and gets the most out of his teams.

To the Scott Tackett question, I would think that he would leave for a quality boys program, which Rowan has the potential to be, others on this list would get the job infront of him because of experience probably though.

I guess Coach Bill M. Runyon isn't a good coach using your logic since he went 6-16 in 03/04 and then 14-15 in 04/05.

 

That statement is borderline obsured. Perry is a top of the line head coach and would be a great hire for any school with a passionate basketball program.
