Men's Softball...It's About That Time Of Year Again

I think I started a thread similar to this one last year.

Who all plays ? Do you play on a traveling team or just for fun ?

I play in a couple of leagues and will be traveling a little this year.

My main question is this. Since the complete ban of the Miken Freak, whats the hottest ASA legal bat being sold ? Last year I bough a Combat Antivirus, I only had the chance of using it in about 4 games last year. It was okay, it had it's moments. I can tell that once it breaks in, it should be a solid bat.

With my tax return check coming in soon, I can't think of a better way to blow 3 to 4 hundred bucks than on a new bat. I've looked into a lot of the original Orange Crushs' I believe they are the only 100 mph rated bat that wasnt banned by the ASA last year. I've also looked at a couple of Easton Stealths.

Anyone had a chance to take any swings yet this year ? Heard of any good new bats out ?

I have a feeling that anything I buy will be a dissapointment compared to the Original Freak, so I guess I'm looking for second best.

I used an original Freak for 4 seasons before it finally busted. It was a great bat.

I recently bought a Worth Mutant. To me, it is hotter than the Freak... out of the wrapper anyway. I am not sure about the durability, but the "sweet spot" is the same as a freak... HUGE!!!!

50 swings out of the wrapper, a teammate of mine hit a shot that went over 450. He hits a lot of balls that far, but with a brand new bat.... I thought that was pretty impressive.

I got mine off of ebay for $240.... so far it has been well worth it. However, I am going to try an limit my bat for individual use only.... but you know how that goes.

 The individual use never worked out for me. I always gave in too.

I actually had been looking at a few of the Jeff Hall edition Mutants. They seem to be getting great reviews.

We had two original freaks on our team. One of them busted and the other is banned now so it's useless.

Some people aren't fans of the freak. I was. Best bat I ever swung hands down. about 5 games before it busted (when we started noticing that cracks were forming) that bat was so sick it was almost unfair, especially considering we were playing in the fall. If you got the bat on the ball with a decent swing, it was gone.

I am in a league in Louisville with some friends on Fri and Sat. I recently just bought 2 bats. Demarini Juggernaut and Juice. I have not hit with them yet, but I have seen some videos on them, and they just crush the ball.

A friend of mine just bought the Antivirus, and he loves it.

This offseason I have spent just over $1500 on softball equipment.:scared::scared:. But I couldn't play last year so it's all good.:D

That's not softball. It's a video game.

Thank God I retired just as the "hot bat" era began.

It's a young man's game now sir

Just kiddin with ya. I tend to agree with you that it gets a little ridiculous when both teams are scoring between 30-40's. Home run limits help out quite a bit. I don't really like to spend 3 or 400 bucks on a bat but you gotta do what it takes to compete.

The ASA bats arent that unreal. I played in a few non sanctioned tournaments last year where anything you wanted to use was legal. It honestly was more scary than fun. Especially playing 3rd base.

Miken rerelased the Freak this year. So just buy one of those.

If you play ASA, that's your fault! :D

I took last year off but am back playing competetve ball this year. We have already played in one tournament and 2nd one is coming up next weekend.

Worlds is in Disney again this year so we will be in Orlando come September!

We don't travel too far, Columbus, IN, Columbus, OH, Indy, and some Lexington I believe this season.

I am currently swinging the Easton White Stealth but may be buying a new bat in a few weeks.

The Stealths are very good. Keep the Crush's on eBay.

No he didn't.

Maybe... just maybe... the boys from the South have a littole more pop than you Yanks from the Northern part of the State.:thumb:

J/k

But seriously... we measured it. The ball traveled around 150 feet passed the fence of 310. It was a moon shot, but like I said, this guy has hit plenty like that before.

Ok.

I caught a 36 pound large mouth yesterday too. Should have seen it! :D
