East KY vs. West KY

Featured Replies

East definitely won the battle in this years Sweet16. The East teams were fun to watch and had a pretty good level of success. The West teams played a few of the most unwatchable games of the tournament. Who would have thought we would have this disparity coming into this week?

Me.

And I thought that Owensboro played pretty well.

Regions 1-5 were down this year. One of the few times they were all down at the same time. If Hood doesn't get hurt in the district tournament, I think you're watching Madisonville instead of UHA.

Christian County, Apollo, Warren Central, and North Hardin all had down years.

I don't deny EKY was good this year. Just a bad year for WKY basketball. You almost had a 18 loss team go from the 2nd Region, an 11 loss team from Region 1, both Region 4 finalists had 10 or more losses, and an 11-loss team almost went from the 5th Region.

The top East teams return alot of players next year. Hazard (14th) and Elliott (16th) return most of their players, and while Paintsville (15th) loses everybody Shelby Valley should take their place and has just as much talent. Corbin and South Laurel will both have nice teams again next year along with Knox from the 13th... The mountains are loaded with talented juniors-to-be...

The future looks well for basketball in the Mountains.

An 11-loss team? What about a team that only played 4 top 30 teams and lost all 4 of those games? What if they played 10 or 11 games against top 30 teams and lost all of those? Would they still be considered a top team as they were with the 4 losses? I don't think you can break it down this way based soley on the number of losses.

Some teams in the Sweet 16 are just lucky to have been in those weaker regions where most of the games are not in question.

Hazard loses one senior who is not a starter! We will see them again if something doesn't change in the next couple of months.

No love from westsider here?
For what?

Actually I think there's no question about it that NKY had the best basketball this year. It was an all nky state championship with a 10th vs 9th game. Mason Co and Holmes were the two best teams in the state and would have most likely knocked off every single team in the tournament if they played all of them.

I disagree. Central Ky had the best basketball. But only 1 team from the 11th regon could make it to the Sweet 16. I am not trying to take anything away from Mason and Holmes because they are outstanding, well deserving teams, but Central Ky was so deep with so many good teams.

18 loss from the 2nd? UHA was from the 2nd and they were 30-4 coming into the tournament.

Christian County was the regional runner-up with a 12-19 record.

It was pretty obvious when comparing regions 1-4 and regions 13-16 that the east regions were far better coached. Kids competed harder from the east. I did think Owensboro was fairly well-coached though, but the other teams did not look like they were.

I was talking more along the lines of the sweet 16. No doubt the 7th and 11th regions were the two DEEPEST in the state but the two best teams came from nky in Mason Co and Holmes.
