Hopson didn't play particularly well, but to be honest, he didn't get much of a break from the officials. Two or even three of his four fouls were on questionable calls, and he appeared to get a bit frustrated.

 

I'm not defending him because the kid has to suck it up and keep playing. Instead, he seemed to drift back and forth between the two ends of the effort spectrum.

 

Hopson and Novosel both were given questionable foul calls. The game wasn't particularly rough so I would have liked to see the refs let them play more. UHA's run came with Novosel on the bench which freed the middle for Hopson's drives, much like Catholics loss to Miller and Mason County earlier in the year.

The potential is there, but potential without desire and determination is no fun to watch. He made a lot of shots with high degree of difficulty, but he just doesn't seem to know how to (or be willing to) play hard. Not once was he in a defensive stance today. He didn't get one offensive board that I remember. He didn't even get in the low block position to rebound when Lex Cath shot free throws...

His drives down the middle were sweet - especially the one that he dunked after cocking it back to his shoulders. His floater is nice and soft, but he didn't hit a couple of wide open 3's.

In college he'll either figure it out or he'll be on of those "could have been" guys.

 

Congrats to Lex Cath. They really came out strong but relaxed a little in the 2nd half. They have a lot of weapons and will be tough for anyone to beat.

Through watching basketball for over 40 years, I find Scotty Hopson as difficult a player to watch as I have ever seen. Great talent.....no passion for the game. I reluctantly say that his high school coach has done a poor job of getting him to play the game as it should be played. I hope his college coach (Stansberry, Pearl, Gillispie) have better success.

 

I did not enjoy seeing this physically talented young man play the game.

Hopson did nothing to help his chances as MR basketball. Did not play with any passion or desire

Like I said, a talented, disciplined team would have no problem... Congrats to the Blazers on a good year...

Lex Cath continued their trend of getting off to a huge lead early (just like region games agaisnt Scott Co. and Station) and then holding off a comeback attempt. If you are going to beat Catholic you are have to:

 

1. Stay in the game early

2. Take care of the ball!

Looks like Scotty had a good game to me 21 and 9 along with 10-16 from the field. Very talented player but seems to get a bad rap on this sight. Not a big high energy guy but a good defender and solid player all around. I believe he will be playing in the NBA someday and how many KY guys can say that.

Catholic's defensive intensity reminds me of South Laurel's 2005 state title team. VERY, VERY quick.

Happy to see the Knights won today. I only got to catch this on the radio seeing as I was at work all day, but it sounded as if Lex Cath really brought the defense in the first half before wilting a bit in the second half. Still, this team has a lot of weapons you must contain and you have to do it the entire 32 minutes because one let up can mean a quick run.

Hopson does take plays off, and that could hurt him down the road. That being said, when that light clicks I think the sky is the limit.

When money gets involved you would be surprised what can happen.
