I don't know about famous but the best assistant coach has to be Dan Tieman from CovCath. Famous, played for the Royals for a short time in the NBA. Also the head coach at CovCath for a number of years. And quite possibly, one of the finest men you will ever meet.

 

No doubt about it that Coach T is an outstanding coach and person.

 

A few years ago Covington Catholic had one of the most distinguished coaching staffs around with Dick Maile, Bill "Buster" Petty & Dan Tieman. Now THAT is a lot of basketball experience.

Being a 16th region fan before most of you were born, I would also consider Chris Trusty, who is now the athletic director at Morgan County High School. Very knowledgable and has a great attitude when it comes with kids. He helped Morgan County win their 1st regional title about 4 years ago. He would be a good choice for someone. He is a winner! I would take him.

Robbie Graham has a good history of basketball. I believe he is cousins with Chris Lofton (Tennessee), his nephew (Josh Graham) played at Virginia Commenwealth University. Clark County is very lucky to have an assistant like Coach Graham. He is definitely a sponge when it comes to basketball. I could see Coach Graham taking over a high school program and be very successful. I think schools that are looking for a good coach need to get in contact with Coach Graham because he could do great things in his program.

Greenup County under Ward had some great assistant's:

 

Jeff Wilcox: Current Ashland Asst. and Baseball Coach. Coached GC Baseball team to a state runner-up finish in 1996. Son Robbie and Ali standout players for the Tomcats and Kittens respectively. Under Ward tough as nails JV coach, but one of the best people I know.

 

Tim Fraley: Rose Hill Coach and possible candidate for open GC position also former point guard on Ward's 1985 Musketeers that featured Mike Scott at Center.

 

Mike Raby: Standout player for Ward graduated in 1984 and coached under Ward for several years before becoming a principal and now works at the GC Board of Education.

 

Scott Floyd: Graduated from GC and played for Ward. He is the currently the head coach at Raceland and won the 63rd District title in his first season. Also he was a highly successful softball coach for Raceland.

 

Jarrod "Sumo" Plummer: Played for Ward and was a member of the Elite 8 Team of 1997. Coached under Kyle Macy at Morehead State as a student assistant and is now an asst. coach at Hawaii Pacific University.

 

Damon Stephenson: Played for Ward around the same time as Floyd standout player and coached for several years at the college level. Had great playing career at Pikeville College Was the top assistant for Greg Marshall during his big runs into the NCAA tournament at Winthrop. Coached at a Prep school in the Carolina's and now is out of coaching.

Roscoe Denny at South Laurel

Bub Silvey from Lewis County. Just left to serve our country in Iraq.

South Laurel's, Roscoe Denny, is the man. He's mentors one of the best young up and coming coach's in the state. Brad Sizemore, remember this kids name, he coach's South's JV team. He has tons of potential and with Coach wright and Roscoe's, tutelage he could be a great one.

Campbellsville University all time leader in assist (814) third in the nation senior year(10.6 per game), steals(667) and a 1000 point scorer, NAIA Honorable Mention All American in 1992. Campbellsville averaged 101.8 points per game in 1991-92 season where they played in the national tournament in Kansas City.

That may very well be. I saw him a lot at the 33rd District Tourney and the Boys 9th region, as well as at the girls 9th region when the lady Cougars were playing.
