10th Region Tournament is over, what is your assessment of it?

 

Was anyone shut out at the finals?

 

Does everyone think that Montgomery Co. would be able to host it again?

 

How were the potties?

Had a great time, enjoyed great basketball as well as great food (pulled pork was top notch).....It will be interesting to see where this thread goes, my bet is the only thing people will complain about is the drive, which Montgomery can't change. Great Job Montgomery on a successful tournament, and Congratz to Mason on the 10th Region Championship!

I enjoyed the tournament. I though they did a good job. They drive from Mason Co. isn't a bad drive because of the work they have done on the road. It took me about 45 min. One thing they may need to do is turn down the volume of the PA system. I thought it was difficult to understand him at times because it may have been turned up too much. Other than that no complaints from me. Anyone have word on what the attendance was last night and if the doors were locked?

From everything I saw, it was ran really well. It was a good change. I think that Montgomery should get their shot again when it comes back around......I know there are ome die hard fieldhouse folks. I am sure there were some things that people were not happy with, but I hope that it doesn't turn into nit-picking and criticizing every little thing.

 

Good luck to Mason in Rupp. Go bring home the hardware....

Hey for a change I loved the drive...20 minutes instead of 1 1/2 hours. The pulled pork was great. I also feel that Montgmoery Co did a GREAT job.:ylsuper: I knew they would. To my knowledge no one was turned away and yes the gym was big enough to hold the crowd.

It would appear that after all the crying and complaining. That somehow, someway, their is other schools with other willing participants capable of organizing a region tournament. Will wonders ever cease?

I prefer to think that I have been one of the “voices of reason” with respect to MasonCountyfans and their views of the change in venue. All along, I stated that my only two concerns with the tourney being held in Montgomery County capacity and geography.

The geography issue is clear-cut.

Mt. Sterling

is not anywhere near the center of the 10^th Region. It certainly makes for a long trip for folks from the northern end of the region. A valid hypothesis would be that many fewer fans from the 37^th and 39^th would attend games in

Mt. Sterling

than in Maysville. Did this occur? Without capturing demographic data from the fans, we may not know.

The other concern was the size of the gym. There is no question that the facility is nice. It’s new, it’s clean; but would it hold the crowds? Now, there were undoubtedly fewer fans at the final game than at most 10^th Region finals. Why? Was it that the average Joe had to float a loan to fill up his tank – a factor over which the tourney officials had admittedly very little control? Was it that the casual fan was afraid of getting to the door, only to be ushered into a room with a closed-circuit TV? Was it that hundreds if not thousands of those snooty Mason County fans knew that the Royals would win all of their games handily, so they just stayed home and worked on their “Royalcentric Theory of the Universe” dissertations? Conversely, were they concerned that the home-court advantage that I often read about would result in the Indians cruising to the title? Were they afraid that they would besmirch the bidets?

I do not know the answers to these questions; I can only speak for myself. We attended the three

Mason County

games, no others. Had the tournament been held in my backyard, I would have attended more than just the

Mason County And I’m guessing that there were folks from

Mt. Sterling

that attended more games this time around than in years past. The mcpapa clan will travel to watch the Royals play (although not to ; my loyalty and my wallet have their limitations); and

Mt. Sterling

is an easy drive these days, now that the metropolii of , et. al. can be skirted.

I was not concerned about being shut out. If I’m paying for gas, tickets and meals, I’m going to, as they say in My Fair Lady, get me to the church on time. However, I have that luxury; age sometimes has its privileges. Long story short, the geography and capacity issues were not nearly the issues with me as they might have been to others.

So, to the tourney itself. Because we arrived early, parking was not an issue for us. Consequently, seating was not an issue for us either. Got the “chairback seats” for the Deming game; blue seats in the lower arena for the Clark and Montgomery contests. I personally prefer the blue seats. The chairbacks tend to shimmy and shake whenever anyone so much as clears their throat; and when I’m sporting my Royals windsuit, I tend to slide out of the front of them, as they seem to have just the tiniest tilt. However, I’m too big a person to dwell on trivial matters such as this.

Excepting the occasional hotdog or bag of popcorn, I try to avoid utilizing basketball gym concessions as my primary sustenance at all costs. The 6 or 8 hotdogs that I did consume were worth a buck apiece. In other words, the food was decent and the prices were fair.

I cannot comment on the magnificence of the “sit-down” bathroom facilities. As a general rule, I take certain, shall we say, “pre-departure measures”.

The ticket-takers and concession workers were courteous. Not once was I verbally assailed or physically assaulted for wearing the blue and white.

And of course, the games played out to perfection.

Anyway, I could go on at length, but I’ve always believed that “less is more”, so I’ll keep this short and sweet. I personally have no complaints about the tournament.

As a resident of

Mason County

and a Royals fan, would I prefer that the tournament be held at The Fieldhouse. Of course I would! I love the tradition and the convenience. But all in all, I thought that, from what I saw at the three

Mason County

games, things went fine.

Good post, and I'd have to agree. Montgomery can't change their location i.e. the drive for most schools, and that has to be the only complaint.

 

My only other points for debates would be why split sessions for the first round? (not a Montgomery issue, the 10th always does this). And why the start times of 5 p.m. and then I think 8:30 ish? The early time has to make it really tough for most non-students to attend the game, and the later time has to make it really tough on most students, especially on a school night.

 

These are 10th region tournament issues I'm sure have been discussed before, but I'm just curious what the general feeling on those two things are.

It would be rough on people from Montgomery Co. or Clark Co. if it was at Mason Co. So I think an inconvenience of having to drive a little bit can be over looked for an opportunity to play in the regional tournament, wherever it is held.

Get over it in Maysville. Montgomery deserves to host it! Great tourney at a great facility put on by great people! Nicely said mcpapa!
