The benefits of rotating the region go well beyond seating and travel times. This tournament will have a positive long term impact on basketball in the Gateway area. Kids are excited. This is a big event for this area. This can help in attracting more kids, more support (including financial) for high school sports. I think in the bigger picture the positives far outweigh gym capacity or travel times. I think this is one of the reasons it should rotate to other gyms in the region. Even smaller sized than Montgomery. The more community support within the entire region will only make this region stronger and more competitive in the sweet 16.

It would be rough on people from Montgomery Co. or Clark Co. if it was at Mason Co. So I think an inconvenience of having to drive a little bit can be over looked for an opportunity to play in the regional tournament, wherever it is held.

 

I think this is the big issue. It is 45 minutes to an hour from Mt. Sterling to Maysville, the Northern Ky kids were the ones I felt sorry for. I personally think a 2 plus hour drive on a school night for ANY STUDENT on a bus is an issue. I believe it would be hard for them to be alert in school the next day. For some reason, most on this board aren't concerned about the kid's education though.

 

I also believe IF the final had been on a weekend, the crowd would have been bigger. I thought the Montgomery Co. fans were late coming in because the Mason Co. side filled up much faster. I also believe the drive was a factor for the Deming fans. The Mt. Olivet people usually turn out big for Deming tournament games no matter who they play. In their district finals they had a great crowd.

 

My biggest complaint was the concession stand lines. They can only serve 1 person at a time where the round concessions at the fieldhouse can serve several at a time. I have no knowledge of the food or the prices or I can't tell you how long the wait was because I chose to not stand in the line. However on the first night, there were no lines.

 

No one ever said that Montgomery Co. wasn't a nice facility or that the workers were rude. Most everyone's complaints or concerns focused on seating and GOD seemed to take care of that problem.

 

Okay as for those famous potties, the one I went too (and I'm not going to tell you which one it was) wasn't all that spectacular, just a pot. Scratches on the walls, just like you would see in any other high school in the country. I took a picture, but I can't get it to upload!

 

I'll say it again, the best team wins no matter where the game is played and that very thing held true again this year.

Get over it in Maysville. Montgomery deserves to host it! Great tourney at a great facility put on by great people! Nicely said mcpapa!

 

I think Maysville people got over it the day after it was announced... They welcomed Mt. Sterling to host it, and many said let's see how it worked out. People just commenting on differences and maybe giving suggestions on how things may have been a little better. That's the best way to find out how it was, ask the comsumers.

The tournament was a sucess but it was not the same as the Fieldhouse. As far as the gym size, yes, it did hold everyone but probably 3000 attended instread of 5300. Let's wait until the attendence figures for 2008 comes out as compared to 2007.

You are right , I liked it better. Weather and having to have the semi and finals on a school night had a factor on attendance. I really believe that the success of the 10th region this years just helps prove the point that it should be rotated.

My only other points for debates would be why split sessions for the first round? (not a Montgomery issue, the 10th always does this). And why the start times of 5 p.m. and then I think 8:30 ish? The early time has to make it really tough for most non-students to attend the game, and the later time has to make it really tough on most students, especially on a school night.

 

It's easy to say the split sessions weren't needed after the draw was determined. The problem is, Montgomery and Mason very well could have been playing in the first round and the split sessions definitely would have been needed. The way the draw worked out this year, there weren't any huge crowds for any of the first round games. Would it be possible to decide whether or not to have split sessions after the draw is determined? I don't know but I think it's a fair question to ask.

It is ridiculous to whine about the drive. Regions all around the state rotate the site and have to deal with a drive. In the 13th teams are going to travel 1.5 hours to 2 hours for some regional locations. They are on the rotating to each district each year. It happens all over the state, its a sorry excuse.
