Elliott Co. 53 East Carter 32

Featured Replies

Thinking strange thoughts tonight after the lackluster performance of the Raiders under the limelight. Most folks would have thought a Raider victory would be certain had they known beforehand that only 53 tallys would end up on the Elliott County side of the board...but alas, where did the East Carter offensive production go in the game. We picked a bad night and a "superbad" opponent to play like that. No chance tonight. We were never in the game.

Back to the strange thought...maybe a name change is in order for the Raiders...something like the East Carter "Cicadas". You know, the locust that shows up every 17 years and creates a lot of noise initially but quickly disappears only to show up again in another 17 years.

East Carter High School

"16th Region Runner-up 1974, 1991, 2008" (Go ahead, do the math!)

Thank goodness for 1986.

I am no entomologist but I will make a prediction...the Raiders will be back on more than one occassion during the next 17 years. Coach Brandon Baker will lead us back real soon! Great year for the boys in Red, White, and Blue. Hold your head high.

Here's the new mascot:

MS LIBERTY---Tyler hit one three from the parking lot. Did you have your glasses on because he was way out there (ha ha)!!! Talked with Tyler after the game and congratulated him on some great shooting. Good kid!!!!

I can't see blaming 25 turnovers soley on the point guard! East has developed pretty good guard play over the course of the season and not having a true point was not a huge problem for much of the season. Granted, the point position did not have a stellar game tonight, but I credit Elliott for that. East still won 24 ball games this year despite what you call a "weak spot."

Elliott's 44% from 3 point land was another big key tonight. MSU should sign Tyler Maynard, if for nothing else, to come in shoot about 8 or 10 three pointers at every home game. He must LOVE Ellis T Johnson Arena!

I agree with your point about the turnovers but a team with 24 wins can still have weak points. Not trying to start an argument, I wasn't at the game. I just saw this post and and that thought came to mind. That's all.

Congrats to Elliott Co on defending their 16th Region title & another visit to Rupp. I was surprised by the margin & how Elliott just completely controlled the game. Congrats to Ethan on a very deserving MVP for the 2nd straight year. T.Knipp or Maynard could have possibly earned it also with their play. Knipp really stepped up during the region, accepted his role & played like an All-Stater. Maynard, I do not know what you want to call him, "The Championship Assassin", "The Bomber" the ADI this morning called him "Mr Big Time" that last three was from his front porch! For East they had a great year & Coach Baker really brought them along. I have became a huge fan of Drew Johnson over his career, best of luck to him. Good luck EC in the "Sweet 16"

SIDELINE COACH--I agree and that is a very good East team that Elliott held to 12 first half points. Drew can play college ball somewhere as he is a nice player. East returns talent, size, and depth next year and that will present some more hard fought games between East and Elliott. I noticed during the all tournament presentation that the Elliott and East players were talking and laughing with one another. Kids have a healthy respect for each other and it was good to see. Coach Baker did a good job with that group winning 23 basketball games. Most of the people outside the 16th don't realize what an effort it took to hold East to 12 first half points. They probably see East as being ranked #150 in the state and don't realize what a good basketball team that is.

Can someone please tell me the name of the short, bald headed referee?

I don't know that anyone will answer your question because there might be lots of people running him out of the area if they knew who he was!!! :irked:
