Just talked to people at Diddle. They said the thing that won the Regional for Rowan Co. may have been the reason for their doom against Breathitt. Their defense being ruff and tuff which was not usually called by the refs in the 16th was called at Diddle. No disrespect intended , I was pulling for them. Not sure how many fouls were called on Rowan but there was a lot of bench time for the starters and that resulted in the rebounding going the other way. Congrats to Rowan Co. on a great season and good luck next year.

24 fouls against Rowan.....less than half for Breathitt. Brockman and Spurlock foul out. Spurlock hardly EVER fouls out... too smart of a ballplayer. Fouls against Breathitt were not called. if they had of been, Shouse would have fouled out the 1st quarter; so many times over the back, it was pitiful!!!! 6 foot 3 over a 5 foot 5..... how could it not be over the back..... i will take the refs from the 16th or the 9th anytime!!!!!

I'm VERY PROUD of these young ladies and the way they have conducted themselves in the classroom, in public and on the court.... they are true role models for our younger kids..... we will certainly miss Cassidi, Stefani and Nicole next year. Girls you have made your parents, your family, your friends , your coaches, your school and your community VERY PROUD!!!! Best Wishes in the future!!! :dancingpa

Well i would say if you are 6'3 playing 5'5 you dont need to go over the back with that reach advantage.

Exactly...Don't care how good your position is...6'3" doesn't need to go over the back of 5'5"...Nice to see that not get called for a change...

Rowan had a nice year and I felt that night in and night out they were the best the 16th had to offer...Coach Tackett was quoted as saying they were outmanned and undersized all year...I will agree with undersized but they had more depth than most in the 16th region...Can't agree with outmanned...

Again, Rowan had a good season in an overall down year in the 16th...They had a nice team but would have probably been no better than #4 in the region last year...

Well I don't think it was uncommon for Rowan to get out rebounded in any game, but they seemed to make up for it in turning the other teams over and out shooting them. I also beleive the 16th refs let teams reach, and hand check, and just overall play more physical. I personally think the open court fouls went uncalled to often. It doesn't take much to make a player lose ball control when being pushed and hand checked.

The fouls called against Rowan were all good calls as Rowan is a team that fouls like crazy and just hopes to get by with it night after night. Good game by the Refs. Rowan got outcoached in this game as Tacket should have gone to some kind of packed in zone since Breathitt co wasn't even looking to shoot outside and probabbly can't. They only took 2 or 3 outside shots and staying in there half court man to man played right into Breathitts hands .

I think Ashland could have won this game because there defenses could have taken away the big girl some. Rowan was very lucky in beating Ashland anyway as I watched that game and I truely believe that Ashland is a better team . Rowan got by with alot of fouls in that game against Ashland.

It's really hard to compare them until they are both on the floor. I know Breathitt finished at the top of their region with a couple of losses to big teams, but Ashland didn't really play any big teams outside the 16th and lost to a couple of teams that were only rated 5th or 6th in their regions , plus they lost to East Carter. The 16th was overall a little weaker than some other regions. So I'm not sure Ashland was really good enough to play at Diddle. Maybe one game and out. I think Breathitt will go out today.

My sentiments exactly:rolleyes: Shouse should have been able to outreach any of these girls , not lay down on them or slap them in the back!!!! Just stating that the fouls were not called numerous times......

Rowan beat Ashland so Rowan deserved to be at Diddle. Could Ashland have competed at Diddle - I believe so but only with the more "mediocre" teams. Teams like Butler or Manual would have eaten Ashland alive as they would have Rowan.

As for Ashland losing to teams ranked 4th or 5th in their region I would like to know who they were? Ashland lost to Johnson Central, Connor, Mason County, Rowan, and East Carter. All of these teams ended the season in the tops of their regions (even East could make a claim to being 3rd in the 16th before being upset by West in the district).

My mistake, you are correct. Connor only had 4 losses in their region and lost to Henderson Co by 13 at Diddle. Mason was 2nd in their region at 24-8 . Johnson Central finished their year at 25-7 with a 20 point loss to E-Town at Diddle. Johnson was 2nd in their region. E-Town could win it all. I'm not sure of these teams regional standings at the time Ashland played them. (Maybe that's where I got the 5th or 6th.) No dig intended, they did great in the 16th, had they gone to Diddle I would have been pulling for them.:thumb:

Rowan had a good year. ( compliment )

In an overall down year( weaken the compliment )

No better than 4th last year. ( slap?, did?, where did you mean to go with this?

According to the refs who are members of BGP, there is no such call as "over the back" in basketball. At least that's what they've posted in other threads when the subject was brought up. If Shouse is 6'3 and was blocked out by a player who is 5'5, more than likely she didn't foul. She would only have to reach her arms straight up and rebound the ball. Just an opnion, I wasn't at the game.
