Elliott took the first blow from RH in the 1st Q and after that they came out swinging in the 2nd Q and took control from there. They were up 14 at one time Ferguson got a Rebound late in the 3rd Q went back and got Hammered by Euton and Jackson and no foul was called Jackson got the rebound and went to the other end and hit a 3 and they called a touch foul and he hit the FT. The Refs let Ferguson and Euton get beat on last night.

Thats the way the whole tourney has been called. Get clobbered underneath & no calls, then a touch ticky-tack foul will be called. Terrible job by the officials in both games last night.

I didn't get to congratulate Elliott on the victory last night and the original thread was closed down before I could do just that (hard to believe, I know). I thought the officiating was pretty fair. The difference in this game and last was Timmy Knipp didn't have 3 fouls in the first quarter of this game. He made a big difference for them IMO. Tough night shooting for RH, just like it was a tough night shooting for Elliott in the first matchup. I think that if these teams played 20 times, it would be a 10/10 deal. Good luck to Elliott in the matchup with East.

I'd also like to congratulate Tony Arthur on a solid high school career. The stats will never show what he meant to this team with his defensive intensity. And that will be difficult to match next season. Again, I salute you Tony Arthur and have enjoyed watching you play!

I dont understand why Rose Hills offense revolves around Dakotah Euton. I understand he is a very good ball player, but IMO, I think Jackson is the better of the two. Euton isnt affraid to pull from anywhere, and often times makes many of those 25-30 footers, but last night, his shots werent falling. Euton and Jackson scored the same amount of points, and Jackson took 10 less shots then Euton. Both are going to be very good players, but I feel for the teams sake, the two should take nearly the same amount of shots. (And yes, I realize Euton got fouled often)

And congrats to Elliott Co., you must turn right back around and play a very difficult game tonight. The boys are fun to watch when they get to playing good team ball.

I think the Twins and Timmy Knipp had a great game. Ferguson played well inside. Maynard hit some big shots in the 4th. Hey boys, you should be thankfuf for those 16th regional officials ,you should have seen the ones we had in the 10th. Best of luck Elliott Co, I'm not from the 16th but have always had an interest in this team. Great kids and I always look forward to talking with the Twins. Had a chance to talk with them again Monday night at Morehead. Love the way they know the game and believe me , they're scholars of the game. Thought they did an excellent job on Dakota last night. My thoughts from last night:

 

Elliott is very fundamental and quick.

Rose Hill is the better team of the two because of the matchup problems.

Rose Hill made no adjustments to win the game at all.

Jackson didnt even hardly move in the first half to help matters out and probably got lucky to have the points he did in the second half.

Rose Hill is much like Elliott in the fact that all the kids play hard defense and battle on every play.

 

 

I drove from the 15th Region to watch the game last night and really thought I had wasted some gas the first part of the game, because Rose Hill was up by quite a bit, but Elliott came charging back to make it lopsided the other direction, then Rose Hill battled back to make it interesting in the end. Good game to watch.

 

I will say as a past Varsity coach I am very distured by 2 things: Elliott's player always questioning the Refs, while being allowed to by the Staff and the biggest thing that disturbed me was Rose Hills Coaching Staff. They could have made adjustments and won this game in my opinion.

 

Either way, great game to watch and enjoyed watching both teams. Looking forward to making the trip to Morehead again next year to watch these two battle it out again, and I will be rooting for Paintsville and Elliott County/East Carter at the state tournament.:thumb:

Wow what a ball game. I enjoyed watching it except that those Ashland folk wouldn't leave and left me and Mrs. King in peanut heaven watching this game in 100 degree heat. Enough that my hair sort of went flat. I have seen both games that these 2 teams have played this season vs. one another and I have a new found respect for Mr. Evan Faulkner. He is a solid player. As a matter of fact, he seems to be the factor that makes a difference more often than not.

Just some analysis from the old Don:

1. I sure don't understand why the Davis boy went to the bench. RH struggled to rebound in the 2nd quarter, and still he sat. Not to mention he's an offensive threat around the basket. They were one shot and done with him out.

2. I have yet to be impressed with Mr. Ferguson as a shooter. I thought he would be more consistent. He plays hard, and not a knock on him at all, just struggled to put the biscuit in the basket in these 2 games.

3. Mr. Euton missed 10 shots 8 ft. and in. He also struggled to put the biscuit in the basket.

4. Mr. Knipp is a much better player inside the arc than out. I hope he understands that his game out there is a bonus to his game inside.

5. I thought the officiating was consistent both ways. Not necessarily stellar, but consistent. To blame officiating in anyway would be silly.

I agree as well that the Davis kid for Rose Hill seem to be a factor at the beginning of the game, then was benched for a while. At the same point Elliott Counties coach did the same to Knipp in the second half. Not sure about either one of those coaching moves.

I will address both comments, you (Elliot) have a record of 25-3 this season and 25-7 last season. Have won back to back district titles, are getting ready to maybe win a back to back 16th Region title, last season you did win the 16th region and went on to Rupp to advance to the final four of the Sweet Sixteen Boys H.S. State tournament. That proves two things to me for sure..........

1.) you have to have very good talent and good, dedicated kids.

 

2.) Your Coach must be doing someting right! A record of 50-10 over the last two years and so far and still playing this season. :eek:.

 

I am not putting down or singling out anyone by quoting these paticular post and I certainly mean nothing personal. I am just saying that I have read several comments from time to time on here about the Elliot coach and complaining about referees and the like along with other things. Again, nothing personal and just an observation from an outsider to the Elliot program..........

I wish that the Elliot fans (some, not all) coud enjoy their kids and school's sucsess more than they do. I remember times and not to long ago and for years that Elliot was a pretty bad basketball team and the talent was lacking, hardly no one in the bleachers sporting them and quite frankly were the team along with one or two others that people were wanting to draw or play in a tournament.

So, Elliot fans what I am trying to say is that you have a fantastic basketball team filled good kids as well that are on that team. These times are not going to last forever and I know that other teams fans are enjoying watching this group of kids play so I hope that their own fans (again, not all) could quit looking to point fingers and find blame and enjoy your team playing, they are very good. Learn to handle and deal with sucsess. Of course having said al of this I realize that there are always things that go on "behind the scenes" that no one on the outside would know and those kind of things imo should be dealt with internally and kept that way.

There will always be some outside people finding ways to put your team/kids down, that is a promise, they certainly don't need it coming from the "inside" as well. I guess what I am trying to say is that time goes by way too quickly and none of know what is in store in the future for any of us so enjoy the present.:thumb:
