I guess I can see why some would want it to be legalized. There might be potential benefits that come from legalizing it.

 

I do not think it should be legalized, but I'm not %100 set on that stance. It's not that important to me either way at this point.

I favor legalization because our legal system should be focused on more serious problems. I also support decriminalizing polygamy and other activities between and among consenting adults. (I do not favor government recognition of polygamous marriages.)

That's kind of a tough call... there are many roads one could go down in this thread that are suspend-worthy, so I'll try to keep my points of view as clean as possible.

 

The Legalize it angle - Mr. Fundamental had a point, whether he was being sarcastic or not. People do it, and it's so much more dangerous for the people involved when it's done in the back allys with shady characters and poor protection. In places like Nevada and Amsterdam the women (or men) are tested weekly and use protection and it's in a very sanitary environment (or so I've heard. I've only seen part of an episode of the Bunny Ranch, so I don't know how sanitary the environment really is).

 

The keep it illegal angle - I understand we all have needs, but (at the risk of having a man card taken away) don't you all agree the world would be a better place if people only had sex with a person they loved? In this fictional utopian society, I can only imagine how far STDs would fall. There's definitely moral issues involved, plus issues that I won't bother discussing on BGP...

 

...but it ultimately comes down to this: I would not want any of my offspring to become - or rely on - prostitutes.

Why is it that tens of millions of people in this country believe that abortion, a process by which viable babies are often slaughtered, should be a woman's legal right because whe should do what she wants with "her" body, but the same people favor jailing women who freely choose to engage in prostitution? A society that endorses the slaughter of 3,000 babies a day should not be wasting resources trying to control what two consenting adults do behind closed doors, regardless of whether money changes hands or not.

 

I oppose abortion because it imposes on the rights of the unborn in an extreme way and I oppose the criminalization of prostitution because it unfairly restricts the rights of adult women.

You are right though about all points!

My gut reaction is to say it should be legal! Cleaner, safer, taxing, people working.

 

I then look at it from a morality point!

 

Should I support sin? No, I will not! I will not by my own actions though. I think about it like this my body is God's temple, therefore, I should take care of it. I should not do things like over eat.(which I do), smoke (which I don't), I should not get drunk (which I don't any more).

 

However, should I ban all fast foods, should we make smoking illigeal, or drinking. Legislating morality is hard propersition, because I choose not to particapate, does not make something illigeal.

Leagalize it. Makes it better for all involved and lets some good come from it. The morality point is that I don't believe in it. I don't want my children to do it. But they have that choice now so what is the difference. At least there will be more education on it if it is legal. If it is like it is now then it can cause more harm.

What if we make prostitutes legal and government regulated. Licensing them, health checkups and such, and best of all TAXABLE INCOME!
