Why is it that tens of millions of people in this country believe that abortion, a process by which viable babies are often slaughtered, should be a woman's legal right because whe should do what she wants with "her" body, but the same people favor jailing women who freely choose to engage in prostitution? A society that endorses the slaughter of 3,000 babies a day should not be wasting resources trying to control what two consenting adults do behind closed doors, regardless of whether money changes hands or not.

 

I oppose abortion because it imposes on the rights of the unborn in an extreme way and I oppose the criminalization of prostitution because it unfairly restricts the rights of adult women.

 

What in the world does the above have to do with my response?

I am generally not infavor of criminalizing what two consenting adults agree to. I am not sure it should be legal, but certainly it should be decriminalized (penalties lessened). However, I would think that prostitution is no where near as expensive on the government as the losing effort known as the "war on drugs".

Why can't they do both? Should they not stop speeders until all murders are solved? No parking tickets until the robberies are no longer?

 

We'd have a lot less people in our overcrowded prison system...

My point is not that I believe society would save money by decriminalizing prostitution or that we should raise the white flag and legalize it but rather that it should not be illegal in the first place.

 

I am fully in favor of the Rudy G. strategy of prosecuting minor crimes like vandalism and even jaywalking in high traffic areas as a way to draw the line for young offenders before they commit more serious transgressions. I just do not believe that legalizing prostitution would necessarily encourage other more serous crime.

 

I am also not in favor of legalizing prostitution and then attempting to tax prostitutes at such a high rate that they end up in prison for tax invasion instead of for prostitution.

 

(I should have probably drawn the parallels between some people's support of abortion "rights" and simultaneous opposition to legalizing prostitution in a separate post. Prostitution is much closer to a "victimless crime" IMO than abortion is and I have a hard time understanding how a person can favor one and not the other.)

Legal. It's not even a question for me. I'm the guy who favors legalizing ALL drugs, of course I am ok with prostitution. It's two adults making a decision that doesn't hurt anyone. It's pretty ridiculous to me that it is even illegal to begin with.

 

I'm starting to lean towards voting for "any" candidate that wants to legalize "victimless" crimes...regardless of their other positions. I figure if the majority of the Republican party can vote based on one issue, then I might as well follow suit.

My gut reaction is to say it should be legal! Cleaner, safer, taxing, people working.

 

I then look at it from a morality point!

 

Should I support sin? No, I will not! I will not by my own actions though. I think about it like this my body is God's temple, therefore, I should take care of it. I should not do things like over eat.(which I do), smoke (which I don't), I should not get drunk (which I don't any more).

 

However, should I ban all fast foods, should we make smoking illigeal, or drinking. Legislating morality is hard propersition, because I choose not to particapate, does not make something illigeal.

Do you really believe that this countrie's laws have not been aligned with Christian values throughout its history? If you can't legislate morality within society, why have a society? Murder is a sin that I am sure you feel should be legislated against and so is stealing. Are you saying that you can only legislate against sin that is "victimless?"

Losing does not mean it is wrong. You can easily lose something that is right and what you should be doing.
