For me being the Catholic Church had nothing to do with. I have been studing all kinds of religions during the past 3 months and have came up with some interesting stuff.

If it wasn't the Catholic Church adding deadly sins, no other church would have probably been doing it and the discussion wouldn't be going on.

 

Anytime you can have a discussion and have people consider what may be sins they are committing in their lives and needing to ask for forgiveness for, that should be a good thing.

So, Jesus didn't talk to a rich guy? Obscenely rich people didn't exist in OT/NT time?

It's about relevance. Don't worry. You don't have to follow the new rules. Just continue on doing all seven of those things.

Frankly, LBBC, everytime the Catholic Church makes a statement, a thread is put on BGP to "discuss" how wrong that statement is. I question the motives of these threads.

That happens with many of the threads about Christian denominations and the positions they take. The Catholic Church just seems to be more vocal and active in taking positions which I applaud them for. So, they are going to take more heat or it would appear to take more heat.

 

I think it is Hounds who has posted stuff on the beliefs of Baptist Church on baptism. He has had to address some hard and serious questions about it and it has led to what I consider a good discussion on baptism.

 

I think this has led to a good discussion on sin in our lives.

 

I wish more of the denominations would take some of the stances on social issues that the Catholic Church does take. I don't agree with all of their stance but they take it. And when they take the stance to not offer sacraments (is that the right word) to politicians that vote against the stance of the church, I applaud that.

 

I wish more churches would walk the walk as the Catholic Church does at times.

 

Personally, I have posted Joel Osteen stuff and had to defend it and him being a false teacher.

I wish not to offend anyone or anything! I was just curious about the statement itself, and the relevancy of the statement, the history of the statement, why was the statement posted, and what others thought about the statement and how it relates to their faith.... nothing more, nothing less. I just for the record I do attend mass at least once a year! I can not participate in many things but I do receive a blessing!

I disagree with this. Every sin is forgivable, even blasphemy.

 

 

 

 

What he said was that mortal sins are NOT UNFORGIVABLE, which makes them forgivable. Christ's sacrifice does not have limits.

 

If somebody ends up in a literal HELL then the sacrifice DOES have limits.

To understand makes other want to run away, or it can reaffirm a position.

 

Even though all denominations have different interpretations, the one binding power is that Christ died for our sins, and it is through Him that we all might be saved!

I guess what bugs me is this: No matter what anyone says about the Catholic Church, I can't think of one single issue that I don't know exactly what side of the aisle they are. The Church makes it very clear what is accpetable, what isn't, and why. Now, there may be points with which one doesn't agree, but there's no way anyone can say the Church is ambiguous. Yet, there are so many out there who are quick to attack the Church for what they (as an entity) state are our beliefs. Of all the denominations I know, there is none that is less ambiguous than the Church.

Did Christ sacrifice for all, or ONLY for those who live by certain rules? If my love is limitless and my sacrifice for YOUR wellbeing is limitless there is nothing YOU can do to offset my sacrifice. If there is, then my sacrifice and love has limits.

The sacrifice and love that Jesus offers is unlimited. It is not that Jesus is unable to save some, it is that some people don't accept that salvation.

How about I "phrase" it this way . . .

 

The only limits put on Christ's Love (read sacrifice or mercy) are the ones placed there by human beings

 

1. Some limit by saying you must accept or reject Jesus

2. Some limit by saying you must accept the teachings of a particular church

3. Some limit by saying you must belong to a particular denomination

4. Some limit by saying you must belong to a particular religion

 

I personally believe I limit Christ's Love when I am not fully loving of everyone around me. I believe I limit Christ's forgiveness when I am not as forgiving as He asks me to be.

I limit God's mercy when I do not practice mercy

 

Sheesh - I literally do a lot of limiting of God's power.
