My common sense in reading Scripture is that a sin is a sin. It doesn't matter the degree because if you don't ask for forgiveness of it and realize that Christ paid the sacrifice for that sin to make me holy in front of God, it doesn't matter whether it was a lie or a murder.

 

And if I did ask for forgiveness and accepted Christ as my Savior, it doesn't matter the degree as His sacrifice is large enough to cover a lie or a murder.

 

It simply doesn't matter.

 

It matters to us humans because we want to judge people and say, Well I am not as bad as him or her. They are much bigger sinners than me. I think it is important to us.

I'm saying it's a two part package. If you sit on your buns all your life and do nothing to make the world a better place, or to take care of your fellow man, it doesn't matter how much faith you have. In fact, if you have faith, you will want to do these things as an expression of that faith. At the same time, you can be Mother Theresa...and if you don't have a strong faith, you're wasting your time.

Does the Bible put them in order? (I really don't know about that, or I have not seen nor studied it.)

I agree that Christ's sacrifice paid the price for all sins. But the Bible does clearly state that different sins are worse then others, it just does not say which ones:

 

If anyone sees his brother commit a sin that does not lead to death, he should pray and God will give him life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death. I am not saying that he should pray about that.

 

There is sin that does not lead to death and sin that does lead to death.

I think it was Paula Poundstone who said, "It may be true that the wages of sin is death. But by the time the government is finished taking taxes out of it, it just sort of a tired feeling."

I am really at a crossroads in my life when it comes to all of this, so when the posts come on here it makes it even worse. It appears to me that no one has the same interpretation of the bible. Catholics, Baptist, Christians, Methodist. I am not posting this to criticize anyone or anything like that. I am posting this because when I read more stuff like this it makes me want to run further away from these things. This might be another topic I don't know but going to 14 deadly sins now. Come on please is that all of a sudden we now know that there are more sins. There are certain things I think the human being just knows, like don't lie, don't steal, don't kill and so on. But now you are getting into very minimal things that does not really mean anything IMO>

It's a response to a modern world that includes temptations that simply didn't exist ib the past.
