You can't pick a wrong team, but I am going to make a case for CovCath.

 

First of all, CovCath have played the absolute best. They beat LexCath (albeit early) and have played Mason County twice. They have also matched up with one of the best EKY teams in Elliot County, so they have played that schedule. Holmes' schedule was no slouch but it wasn't CovCath's schedule.

 

CovCath is also a senior dominated team. While Holmes last year did not have the teamwork that their squad this year does, once they got down to Rupp and realized that it was their last chance together, they really turned it up a notch and came as close to winning it all as any team since Simon Kenton in 1981. Similarly, CovCath's team has 5 seniors who have been playing together for a very long time.

 

I do not know who will win the region championship, and I know that both teams have the ability to do very well, and whoever wins probably will. But I like CovCath this year with their seniors and experience in terms of strength of schedule.

I believe that either CovCath or Holmes will represent the 9th just fine. I look for their matchup...barring the upsets...to be a dead even game. Each team has their own unique strengths and weaknesses. It will be a real chess match in the middle of a battlefield and may come down to a lucky bounce at an opportune time. It will be definitely worth the price of admission. And thanks to ICN6 and their sponsors for bringing the games to cable and giving all of NKY a chance to see it...because I think this one will fill the gym!

If you honestly don't think that the fact that CovCath has already played 2 of the most likely candidates to win state will help them in a future matchup with either of those teams, then I will assume you have never played basketball.

You know what happens when you assume :confused: I also coach boy's 7th & 8th grade basketball. My son goes to a Catholic School and plays for the team. I have the upmost respect to Cov Cath. I predicted them to win by 8.Cov Cath has a great team!!! I just think Holmes is just a little better, better and faster & I think(me personally) think that Holmes would better suit to go to state.

Holmes has 6 seniors this year who have been playing together both on the aau circuit and in high school since their 8th grade year. I think their experience is just as good as Covcath's. This group also has 4 players who saw significant minutes in last year's state semi run (Henderson, Clark, Avery, Nelson,) and will be their 3rd trip to Rupp in 4 years. Also It would be Henderson's 3rd trip as a starter, so they have the veteran leader needed to step up in clutch moments.

 

Sorry but I like those odds a little more than the fact that CCH seniors have been playing together for a couple years. Covcath would make a nice showing at Rupp, don't get me wrong, they're a great team, but if we're talking in terms of actually winning a state title, which we should be, Holmes without a doubt has the best chance. They're the only team in the 9th that has the depth needed to make a lengthy run. Last year's team was hurt that they had no depth, or hadn't realized the depth they had yet.

Whoever wins the 9th Region tournament (Holmes or Cov. Cath) are the best in the 9th Region. So I would say the winner would be the best representative for the 9th Region at the Sweet 16.

No, CovCath also lost in the semifinals a few years back.

Let me put it this way. If I am looking at a team that I think could make a real serious run at a state title, I would say Holmes. CovCath, while having the potential to win one, or maybe even two games, I think is going to need a bad game from what I think will be the 11th region to get past the two games, and might even need a bad game to get passed the 7th. No offense to the 5th, but I think there are a number of teams in the 9th that could beat the 5th champion. But thats why they play the game I guess...
