I think Chris Paul has a very strong argument to be the MVP of the league...all the talk centers around Kobe and Lebron, but the way Paul has lead the Hornets into contention is really amazing.

The Spurs are on fire right now, they've won 10 in a row and are 2 games back from the Lakers. I think that Duncan is too much for the Lakers. I also believe Bruce Bowen can slow down Kobe enough for the Spurs to beat them in a 7 game series, if that time comes.

They finished the month of January 3-5 after Bynum went down. They're 13-2 since adding Gasol. They'll be even better when Bynum returns.

 

I'll be extremely surprised if anybody besides Los Angeles or San Antonio wins the west, and the NBA title. And, I think a series between those two would be really competitive and fun to watch. However, adding Bynum back to what the Lakers currently have makes them to team to beat and the best team, IMO. Their front line is going to be a nightmare matchup for any team in the league...

 

Simply, when the Lakers put this lineup on the court (Farmar or Fisher, Kobe, Odom, Gasol, and Bynum), I don't think there is a team in the NBA that can match up with it. Offensively, Odom and Gasol are versatile enough to play outside and keep the spacing right instead of clogging up the center...and defensively, it gives them a lot of versatility to defend strong post players (like Duncan).

 

Take the Spurs for example, how will they counter that lineup? If they want to keep Bowen on Kobe it would mean that Manu Ginobli would either have to go to the bench, or guard Odom, Gasol or Bynum...I'd say either option favors the Lakers.

 

I'm looking forward to this series...it's inevitable, IMO. But, I think the Lakers are the better team and they'll prove it when it matters most.

And, if I'm not mistaken, the Spurs are actually leading the Western Conference right now. Well, technically they're tied, but the Spurs have a one game advantage in the loss column, which is the one that matters.

The Lakers and Spurs are doing what they should...they're beating all the teams they should and most of the rest. Home games against Dallas and New Orleans are the most impressive wins during the Spurs win streak. After that, they've beat a bunch of moderate to weak eastern conference opponents, the best of which was Cleveland. I'm not knocking them for their winning streak, just trying to keep it in perspective...I mean, seriously, the Rockets have won 16 in a row.

Honestly, I'm not worried about the Lakers offense. The Spurs are an all around great defensive team, they always have been. They'll find a way to stop the Lakers...and win another championship.

Your confidence is warranted. The Spurs are a proven commodity and they've been consistent.

 

I thought the Lakers had a shot earlier in the year when Bynum was healthy, but realistically, I didn't figure they'd have enough to beat the Spurs. When they traded for Gasol, I knew he was a pretty good player, but I had no idea he was as good as he's turned out to be. With him in place and Bynum coming back, I think they have a chance to go on a multi-year title run. If they do get beat this year, I'd be in complete and total shock if it was anyone besides San Antonio.

If I had to rank them I would go:

2. Derron Williams

3. Baron Davis

4. Steve Nash

5. Jason Kidd

I do find it somewhat funny a 2 time MVP is so far down on people's list.

 

Parker is quite good, but I dont think you have an argument here HB. The Spurs played fine without him for a time this year and in years past. He is one of the quickest guys in the league, but its not like he does a ton of creating for them, and is not a threat from outside. I think the Spurs would have done just as well with a lot of different PG's across the league.
