St. Xavier is 6-5 versus Male in the 2000s.

 

St. X is 93-16 and Male is 89-18 at a quick review of louisvillehsfootball.com.

 

.853 versus .832 overall. I like St. X's record because their schedules usually are tougher.

They're close enough that I'll give Male the tiebreaker by virtue of:

 

1) their best team this decade being better than X's best team;

 

2) their loss to Trinity in the state finals was as entertaining a game as has ever been played in the state.

X has clearly been better the last 5 years. The talent level on Preston at the turn of the century was AMAZING. Bush, Jones, Green, Spencer, Barclay, Shumate (although he went on to bigger things in college...) ALL were on the same team. Just outstanding individual talents.

All I am saying there is that Trinity played Male in the title Game in 2000, 2001 and 2002. T-2, Male-1

 

Trinity played St.X in 2003,2005 and 2007. T-3 X-0

 

Same number of titles since 2000 for both schools but only Male went through us to get it. That is all I am saying. No need to get testy.

I think if you lined up the best players from each team through these years Male would have the advantage. They just had an outstanding run of talent through the early 2000's. Any coach would dream to have one of the athletes that Buddy mentioned, let alone all of them. Not taking anything away from X, I have a great respect for them but on talent alone I'd go with Male.
