Tennessee 66 Memphis 62

Featured Replies

While they are different, it was simply explained that because of his size he couldnt get anything done. You do realize almost every 2 in the NBA is at least 6'5?

You do realize the opposing teams defensive gameplan wont be focus on him in the NBA?

Lofton hit some huge shots over Durant last year against Texas, and led them to a win....and he's not exactly small, and definitely what you call a great athlete.

They shut him down with good defense, which helped open things up for other players. Tennessee, though, needs to work on getting him the ball in transition and setting better screens, that would help against a better defensive team. Regardless, they won virtually without him, and that makes it even more impressive.

Lofton did score 35 points against Texas last season. However, he was 8-24 from the field so he didn't exactly light it up and Durant is a great player but not nearly as quick as Lofton.

I think Pearl likes Andrews.

Now to the game. UT is a good team but there is no way they will win it all.

I'll take UCLA, UNC and more over them.

So do I. But I don't think she cared too much for him!!!

He managed to hit key shots in the end of each of both these games to get the win. Thats all that matters in the end.

To add to that, Durant didnt guard him all night. People think he did because Lofton hit the miracle three over him toward the end.

So his man wont guard him? Please...

Do you really think that that 3 was a miracle even though he has over 400 for his career?

Awesome game! Glad to the the Vols pull out the W. As OR pointed out, the rebounding differential was huge and surprising. Bruce Pearl is flat out awesome, I really like him! :thumb:

I never said that. You just don't know what your talking about. It took a total team effort to shut him down tonight. There is not one player that can shut Chris down one on one for a whole game. He was shut down. It was one game. He will bounce back and have a big week this week playing Vandy and UK.

They won't have to focus on him. He'll be sitting on the bench. He's a great college player but the 6'6"-6'8" guys that will be guarding him will eat him up. He'll be a role player in the NBA. Memphis shut him down tonight basically by manning up on him all night--it isn't like they double or triple teamed him. It was a great win by UT and Lofton is a great college player, the fact is he's a 6'2" shooting guard and he can be stopped by one guy, he's not a threat to post up and a taller guard that can hang with him off the dribble gives him fits.

It was a great shot but let's not pretend that he hits a shot like that every game. This quote came from Lofton himself on the recap of the Texas game:

Lofton said that 3 may have been the longest he's made in college.

Durant was all over him--let's just say it wasn't a high percentage shot, but it turned out to be a great one.

To add to that, Durant didnt guard him all night. People think he did because Lofton hit the miracle three over him toward the end.

Didn't say he did, just stated that he hit a huge shot over him. Durant was on him at that point to keep him from hitting a miracle shot, but obviously it didn't stop Lofton. He has is good and bad days like anyone else. I look for him to turn it back on against Vandy. He'll bounce back.

If you don't think that Kobe Bryant, Chauncey Billups, Dwayne Wade etc. can't shut Lofton down one on one you are sadly mistaken.

This game just took Memphis out of my Final Four list... Free throws will bite them in the tourny and they won't be seasoned in the close game category, which there will be plenty of in the tournament.

I agree with everybody else too, UT is a good team but will not with the Tourny and I don't even think will make the Final Four.

There is a difference between saying they won't win it all and saying they have no chance of winning it all. They have a talented team, and are capable of winning it all, but they are also a streaky team. They are off and on. The way they played tonight, they will be able to beat a lot of teams, and that was without Lofton being "on". Add him to the mix, and they would be extremely hard to beat. I think they have the opportunity to win it all this year and make a deep run, but I don't know...something's telling me they'll fall short.

You can say that about any other contender too.
