And from my understanding there has not been any complaining from the little town of Owingsville.

Shaft you can form any opinion you choose from my posts but because my opinion differs from yours dont discount what I may or may not know about sports. You might be surprised to find out I know a considerable amount. If you have read my other post you will see that I gave Hicks credit for being a good coach. I dont doubt the fact that he gets along well with the players and parents. It is in his or any coaches best interest to do so. Talk all you want about how much his players love him and how much he loves them...... belive what you want but his history shows that he would have fought tooth and nail against a suspension if he thought he could win. His "love" for the kids would have taken a back seat to him proving his point if it were possible to do so......

(Coach Hicks, Coach Fraley,& Mr. Hall) I don't think any of them need to be bashed. After the first Rose Hill/Bath game I spoke with Coach Fraley and he wasn't very happy with the officials. He and his team had just lost a very big game though for the Rose Hill family and I understood that. Just like I did after the second game. I'm sure when the next game came up he had forgotten about the officials from the last game. Both of these coaches have a christen atmosphere around their teams and I admire that in them.

Mr. Hall called the last Bath/Rowan game at Bath. He and Coach Hicks talked before and during the game. As coaches and officials you've got to have skin of leather, and let everything go. Both coaches have very good teams this year and some outstanding young men on both teams. Knowing both of these coaches I don't think either cares what you say about them but would much rather you talk about what great young men they have. That's all that matters to them. As for Mr. Hall he's one of the top officials in the area. I also listened to the radio show setting in front of the table with a man over from me with a raido. I guess in Kentucky that would be surround sound. I didn't hear any names either, but I'm guilty of hollering at him from time to time. After the game I'll shake his hand and he will still be a good official because we know their not there for the money.

For the person that sent the letter, you just made a mess for all of these guys that they didn't need at this time of year. If you want to send a letter and it do some good. Send one to Frankfort and tell them not to cut the money for higher education that will hurt these young men and women. If you don't want to put your name on it let me know and I'll be glad to let you use mine for that. Good luck to Bath County and Rose Hill the rest of the season, something tells me we will hear a lot about both in the next few weeks.

You have your opinion, but I have the facts. He could have coached and delayed the situation until next year, but he said it was in the best interest of the team for him to sit out and to put closure to the issue.

Shaft, you sound like a man close to the situation at Bath. So let me ask you this, why did he sit out a game if not already mandated by the KHSAA? Or was it sent down that he'd be suspended for one game over the comments? You seem to be in the know. I would assume by your posts that he knew it was coming and wanted to get it over with. I highly doubt Mr. Coach Hicks would just sit out a game because he thought it would be the prudent thing to do. That would be against his character, IMO.

Evidentally Jim Hicks hasn't learned from his mistakes!

 

Coach is emotional, but if you are talking about his tenure at Greenup, it was the Administration who made the mistake my friend. Coach is not a choir boy but neither are any other 16th region coaches.

If he was as innocent as you want to believe why would a penalty be forthcoming? Just becuase you belive it doesnt make it true my friend......

I meant that he could have delayed it to next year and then dealt with it. I did not mean wait until next season and then get suspended for one game. He just wanted it to be over and not have any distractions during the post season. The KHSAA did not do anything but say that it was Bath Co.'s decision because they can not do anything with an anonymous letter. They did say that if someone else wrote a letter and signed a name to it then the KHSAA could get involved and there could possibly be a suspension if it was found to be true that Coach Hicks called the official out by name. And since the radio station did not tape the post game show, then it could have drug on for a month, so like I said he chose to sit out the game and put closure to it. I hope you can also put closure to this issue.

Officials and coaches have a mutual respect for each other. Usually when the game is over, everything is fine. How many coaches actually believe they lost only because of the officiating. I would venture to say that there are twenty to thirty calls that "could go either way". These seem to be the ones that cause the most problems.

 

In all my experience of calling games, (a few I might add) instinct takes over. You see the play develope, in a tenth of a second your brain tells you to blow your whistle.

 

What makes a good official? Someone who calls the same each and every night out. Good officials see the play develope and without thinking make the call.

 

To say people can not officiate if you know this person and do this this and that with them is crazy. A good official makes a call without thinking, and s right at an alarming clip believe it or not.

 

Case in point. I got called to officiate a game around here on a short notice, they had an official that couldn't make it. The game got ugly QUICK, 36-4 mid way through the second. The coach of the winning team, who I work with asked me to just give them the ball on anything close. This was the hardest thing to do, you see the play happen, before you know it you have made the call. The other team in this game I coached the 7th 8th grade for two years. Relationships play a role so small that it should not be mentioned in how an official (esp in this case) calls a game.

My question is who sent the "anonymous" letter to the KHSAA and why not have the guts to sign your name to it? Sounds like somebody just trying to cause trouble to me. Bath Co. has been the irrelevant doormat of the 16th region for years, and now that they're making some serious noise in the region, could it be that somebody has become a little paranoid? :sssh:

Impossible. Our region would be official-less. And although some might think that an improvement:D. Simply impossible. Great theory. Not reality.

 

Far from the truth. Yes officials have relationships with coaches, but you are saying that all officials have personal relationships with coaches (playing golf, cards, family dinners, etc.). If an officail "hangs out" away from the court with a coach they should not call that came. No way they could be fair.
