It sure is a good thing that no one has to worry about Coach Hicks except the people of Bath County.

 

And from my understanding there has not been any complaining from the little town of Owingsville.

I meant that he could have delayed it to next year and then dealt with it. I did not mean wait until next season and then get suspended for one game. He just wanted it to be over and not have any distractions during the post season. The KHSAA did not do anything but say that it was Bath Co.'s decision because they can not do anything with an anonymous letter. They did say that if someone else wrote a letter and signed a name to it then the KHSAA could get involved and there could possibly be a suspension if it was found to be true that Coach Hicks called the official out by name. And since the radio station did not tape the post game show, then it could have drug on for a month, so like I said he chose to sit out the game and put closure to it. I hope you can also put closure to this issue.

 

What makes you think Coach Hicks could have delayed it until next year? He has no control over when the KHSAA conducts its investigation and imposes any punishment. I'm not close to either team or the 16th for that matter, but simple outside logic leads me to conclude that Coach Hicks must have felt he was wrong and that some type of punishment would eventually come from the KHSAA and rather than have a possible suspension happen later in the season (tournament?) he decided to take it now and get it behind him. Good for him for acknowledging his improper behavior. Hopefully he told his kids that he did wrong and deserved the punishment and didn't give them some baloney about how unfair the KHSAA is, or how wrong it was that some coward reported him anonymously. He's role model and teacher of young men first, a coach second; or at least he should be. I don't know him but hope that is the case.

 

As to the posts on here that his comments were just an emotional outburst after an emotional game, then I guess those posters would be just fine with a fan getting in Coach Hicks' face after an emotional game and dressing him down in front of his players. Probably not. If Coach Hicks can't control his emotions after a big game, he needs to learn to just pass on the post game interview until he's calmed down. Not only with that be good for him, it would teach a good lesson to his players. If its fine for him to say inappropriate thinks when he's hot, it's got to be fine for his players and fans to do the same thing; and I don't think that's the sportsmanship we should be imparting to participants and fans in high school athletics.

Coach is emotional, but if you are talking about his tenure at Greenup, it was the Administration who made the mistake my friend. Coach is not a choir boy but neither are any other 16th region coaches.

 

No I wasn't. Greenup wasn't the only place Hicks has coached.
