That is not correct......Names were mentioned and that ultimately is the problem.

 

I listened to the entire show and no names came up. So unless you were listening how would you know? Both of the guys on the raido said no names came up. They didn't need to.

What is interesting is, that on the KHSSA website, they say they will not respond to anonymous letters or calls.

 

 

You should read a bit further.....it explains how the KHSAA will handle anonymous letters......It states "Anonymous letters sent to the KHSAA shall be forwarded to the school administator of the school in question by the KHSAA Commissioner, with no further action to be taken unless a violation is reported."

 

Maybe the school acknowledged that Hicks made the comments on the radio.....

If this was such a conflict of interest then why didnt Hicks complain about this when the same official called the game at Rose Hill when he beat them? I can answer that for you......He is just looking for an excuse......He never gets beat, he only gets cheated.

I have to agree with Mr. Tie and Mr. Tanna. I've never seen a coach have an issue with the officials 98 out of 100 trips up and down the court. He's got a solid team though!

Don I agree that he has a solid team.....great bunch of kids....I'll even say that Hicks is a good coach but his paranoia goes a bit too far sometimes. Its a shame to think he could pass that kind of an attitude along to the kids. You have to learn to lose as graciously as you win.

Well said! And I agree. Mrs. King had paranoia issues when we lived in Cleveland. Takes a little pill everyday and now she's fine. I agree also that his kids will assume his attitude and behavior. I hope that they see past it. Kids are pretty sharp!

He might not have known they were roomates if the other coach hadn't yelled "thats my roomie!" after some big calls.

Yes, was at the game and heard the interview. The scoretable told me what he said.

The AD, principal, superintendent, and the parents asked Coach Hicks to fight this because he had done nothing wrong. The principal listened to the radio show and his was going to be one of many letters sent to the KHSAA saying no names were said on the radio.Hicks wanted it settled and done so it didn't affect his KIDS.

Sounds to me like people are making a big deal out of nearly nothing. Who could blame a coach for making a comment like that after a very emotional game with so much at stake? Especially if the RH coach was commenting on it during the game as has been suggested on here. I really don't see it as being that big of a deal. IMO, if the assigning secretary was doing his/her job, then this official wouldn't be doing any games in which his college roommate was coaching anyway. The official also could have avoided any conflict by taking himself off of RH games. I know of several similar situations where officials don't work certain teams' games because they are too close to the coach or school. Why put yourself in that position in the first place?

 

Regardless, Coach Hicks chose not to fight this and let it linger through the post-season, even though it appears to me that he had every reason too. He voluntarily chose to sit out the EC game and put the issue to bed. Keep up the good work Coach Hicks and the Wildcats, and best of luck in the post-season! :thumb:

I understand where you're coming from here, but my question is where does the relationship with an official cross the line? And furthermore, where does the line of omission begin? Most of the guys that officiate in the region and the coaches have some type relationship with each other. They may have been teammates at one time, played against each other, been friends in high school or college. Bottom line is that the official in question did nothing wrong, called a fine game, and that should have been it. The simple fact that it's not speaks volumes about the region and it's participants IMO.

First of all I don't think an official should do a game involving a school that he attended, and for the most part, I don' think this happens. As far as a friend, former teammate, or college roommate, I think it depends on the current relationship. I don't know what the relationship is in this situation, but I'd say a lot of people stay in contact with their college roommate and many remain really close friends for life. If that is the case, then he shouldn't be doing the games, and by doing the games, I'd say the official himself would be partly to blame. It would be in his best interest to remove himself from the game and avoid being subjected to unwarranted criticism. Again, I don't know about this particular situation. If the two really haven't remained in close contact over the years, then I really don't see that big of a deal with it. However, if the KHSAA also sent a letter to the official and to the assigning secretary as has been posted here earlier, then I'd say they felt the relationship may have crossed the line.

 

Either way, my point was that Coach Hicks' comments came after a very emotional game where the stakes were about as big as they get. I don't think his comments were that unusual or out of line. Regardless, he chose to self-impose a one game suspension to avoid any further distractions.
