It is too early to be predicting region tournament winner, IMO. Sure, on paper it looks as if Greenup has what it takes to make another run to Applebee's, but until the teams start playing one another we won't know.

 

Of course, injuries and hurt feeling will play a part in this ,too. From reading earlier posts, this has already been an issue with Boyd. I know last year, one of our senior's was out most of the season with a broken leg. Any team who suffers injuries, be it now or later in the season, runs the possability of having their season shortened come tournament time.

 

This being said, as of right now it is anybody's season. I wish all teams the best, and look forward to a thrilling season and post season.

LOL, Not a coach yet. But as my profile said, I am the father to five future athletes, so I am getting prepared now!

Probably so, No disrespect to any other teams but Greenup does not have much competition.

 

I am sorry for the comment it was a bad thing to say, I meant it to be simply that GCHS pitching staff would be the best in the region due to the weakness of the other teams staffs being down this year. However, there is a good chance that another team will be strong this year, so to those that I offened I am sorry.

Im a Raceland fan, and I actually think East will be top dog this year. Raceland will have a couple of nice pitcher in Wilson and Reynolds, but I think their hitting will be down a little. Carver and Martin are both good hitters,but after them I dont know.

True statement. East Carter beat Greenup twice last season, including Hieneman once, and they only lost 2 starters. They also beat Raceland the only time the two played. I believe Boyd, East, and Raceland can all beat Greenup on a given day. I am not sure about Ashland.

East is in this position seems every year, yet never seem to get over the hump. They blow thru the regular season with a real impressive record then dont do that well in the post season. I think part of this problem has been adressed with the coco trip but they need to beef their schedule up a little bit to better prepare them for post season.

Playing in the 62nd district doesn't help them either. I do agree that this year may be one of their best shots in a while at a Region titile. They have the pitching to carry them through a regional tournament.

This year's schedule is tougher. They are going to Cocoa, playing in a tourney at Harrison Co., playing in a tourney at Paintsville, playing in a weekend tourney at Powell Co., they added a second game with Boyd, and play Lawrence and Greenup twice. The 62nd seeds so they have to play West and Elliott which are usually weak, and Morgan who should be pretty good. Their post-season struggles may be due partly to the fact that the last 3 seasons in the regional tourney they have faced Justin Moore, Brandon Williams, and then Justin Moore again.

Raceland will definitely have a pitching depth problem this year. I personally would like to see the martin kid hit in the 3 hole. He has good power to the gaps. He will probably lead off, but if I could find another lead off guy he would definitely be moved to the 3 hole. As for the wilson kid He is definitely going to have to step and be the man on the mound this year. I've heard he has pitched well in the summer, but he has yet to do it at Raceland. I hope he can this year. I also think this region is between East and GC.

Every year the Wilson kid has pitched key district games for the Rams and has won a lot probally as much as any on the Ram staff (not sure) so how can you say that he has not done it yet?

Thats good to hear, I have always thought East was a school that took baseball seriously and thought their schedule and a jump start trip such as the cocoa trip was probably what seperated them from some of the more elite programs come tournament time. This is not a bad time to be a member of the 16th region, there is not as much of a gap between Greenup and the rest of the 16th as some might think(they didnt look very good at Applebees), Boyd can be beat the next 2 years, Martin will be pitched around at Raceland, Ashland seems to be going the wrong way. I dont ever remember the region being this wide open in a long time. Good Luck to all teams, this year it really is anyones to win.

East Carter is the team to beat in the 16th region. Coach Shearer (sp?) is top notch and he has immense talent to play with. I believe his sophomore class may be one of the best in the state.

I would love to see East have a successful run in the regional tournament. They are always a scary team to face, they just have to get over that hump and take the next step. Good luck Raiders.
